I wanted to select the dark with the light trim but selected the light with the dark trim on accident. I like the river stone look. I think a darker color stucco would make the stone pop instead of washing out the house. my .02

There, they had to either have brick or that hard composite siding they put on homes. The siding allows for a greater variety of colors than if you're just dealing with stucco and rock.

I'm not sure if this link works, but you can kind of see what I'm talking about here:

How's this? You don't get any of the texture in my crappy photoshop, but we're now considering a lapboard siding where you see green and then a medium stucco (similar to garage in new pic) around the side and back of the house.

Before I can answer, is your intention to increase curb appeal or piss off your neighbors?

I like it. I think the green helps the stone. Maybe it is because we don't have homes like that around here (if its not on wheels, it is brick) but I really like the stone work.

I'll take that as a thumbs down.

The interesting thing about this is the surprisingly varied opinions people have. As we've been standing outside looking at the house with different color samples we've talked to a lot of our neighbors. We've asked them to feel free to offer their opinions, but now we're wondering if that was wise.

What one neighbor really likes, another hates. We've concluded that we are bound to piss someone off - I don't think it can be avoided.

the only problem with your house isn't the color, it's the boulder look that screams 80s. I'd do it all in hardie-board siding and choose a color that you like and sells well as eventually you will have to sell the house. Take cues from some of the nicer looking homes in your neighborhood (I'll bet a fair share of them have the boulder look too) and try not too stand out too much. You want to be unique, but stay within the norms of the neighborhood.

Knock it off. This board has enough problems without a dose of middle-age lechery.

It is true. It amazes me how varied people's taste in homes can be with regard to the exterior of a home. Some of my friends and neighbors really surprise me with what they love or hate.

Wish we could lose the rock, but that's an expensive proposition. I vividly remember my first thought when I pulled up at this house with our realtor: "Woah. That's some big rock."

Do this. This is way better than the bland tans/browns. I was actually going to suggest this color b/c I saw this house when trying to figure out what hardie board was.
