installing wood floors

I think I'm finally ready to start putting down the wood. In the den and foyer, I had to patch quite a bit of the floor, probably around half of it. I over poured a few places, and feathered it out with a 12" finish trowel.

To really smooth things out, I tried using my 4" razor scraper to make it level to the existing concrete, in one spot. The levelor was a little sandy-ish after I scraped the top off. Does that sound like a problem? I mixed the levelor up a little on the thin side, because I was filling such shallow holes.

I'm guessing I'll not scrape anymore. The un-scraped areas seem really solid.

Any things I need to think about before I glue down the first board? I'm going to measure from distances between walls in several locations to try and find a center that minimizes problems. I don't know off square the walls are yet.
The longest run goes goes from den to foyer to living room, each room is between 15-17' wide.

Curious question......when you were placing the planks, did you ever stop and think about which one would go where based on how it looks? When I build things comprised of pieces (e.g. brick pavers), I often think about why I'm putting one in a certain place. It's not like I'm thinking about the overall look, but sometimes I just ask myself "why" I picked one as the next one.

It's not like I'm thinking about the overall look, but sometimes I just ask myself "why" I picked one as the next one.

There is enough movement in some of the striped pieces to contain some Rorschach images.
But mostly I just take the piece my wife hands me.

We sorted them all into plain and striped pieces, to get a sense of what the ratio should be, and then try to maintain it. We did save the really pretty pieces for areas that wont be covered rugs and furniture.
I can dig the Bob Ross approach though:
"Hey there little board. Would you like to go right here? Look, right next to your best friend Lance. And hey, lookey there, Michelle is a little knotty. You might like to get know her."
