This may come from my own bias and experience growing up. I know it is considered a big sin isn't it?

AS far as the bulk of the membership goes though, no I don't think they believe that.

Maybe so. I can't really speak to those who live in Utah as most have not really been exposed to it. But I don't think many LDS in the mission field (where I've been anyway) give it a second thought if someone else is drinking.

While I agree with you and think that probably goes for most mormons in Utah, I have seen the question asked on CB if it is OK to go into a facility where alcohol is served to watch a sporting event.

Also, does anyone know if it is against the HC to be in a establishment where liquor is served or to be with someone who is drinking alcohol?

Technically, it's a violation of the honor code to be present where others are consuming alcohol. So, Applebee's is out.

Here is my take on it. And my MP even taught us this. There are sins that are morally wrong no matter who you are. And then there are sins (he called them infractions) that are wrong because you know better and/or have made a commitment not to do that.

Someone above said drinking alcohol is wrong because you made a promise to God not to. I think that's exactly right. A Presbyterian did not and in my option are not "sinning" when drinking socially. And they most certainly are not evil.

The same premise could be applied to lots of other things beyond the WoW. Not paying tithing. Sabbath day Observance. I could go on.

On the other hand, there are things that are clearly morally wrong regardless of your religion (or lack thereof). Murder, rape, theft, etc.

WOW aside, there is a teaching that all things should be partaken in moderation. I can understand why alcohol would be generally restricted though, because more than just a little has the effects that Creekster described, which, combined with its addictive tendencies are a recipe for disaster.

Meanwhile, people who drink small amounts of coffee medicinally, or smoke small amounts of pot medicinally, or have the occasional glass of wine - - when consuming those minor amounts and no more, staying in control, I don't see any difference between that and taking Prozac.

Fiyero... I know you like your sexy avatars, but could you stick with one like 71? I'm used to his now... and at least I can focus on her smile. This one looks like she's about three seconds from being naked. It's worse than the boob smilie.

I don't know if it is a hangover, but serotonin syndrome is very nasty as is abrupt withdrawl from any serotonin altering agent.

I find it perplexing that Jesus refused the vinegar and hyssop when he was upon the cross. If anyone needed a painkiller it was him.

I don't know what you have in mind. I would ask you to explain yourself, doing so in short bursts that will require you to post multiple times to fully elaborate.
