And he might even do that name calling by encrypting it in an academic paper."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

Is this the Jack Welch, law professor of corporations?Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostI may be off by a few days, but he (Peterson, not Mohammed) was sacked by the Maxwell Institute while he was helping guide a tour group we were part of in Israel and Jordan last year. Jack Welch was the other tour leader. Dan has a great wealth of knowledge on things relating to the Middle East and has a very dry sense of humor, so he was excellent in that setting. The apologetics stuff and his defensiveness are unfortunate.
I liked him a lot though he was very dry in class. I can see how Peterson could have a lot of knowledge in that setting."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."
Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

Yeah, this is the Jack Welch who helped to start FARMS. I believe he has some strong opinions about how FARMS lost its independence, but I'm not sure how much of that is on the record.Originally posted by Topper View PostIs this the Jack Welch, law professor of corporations?

Jack knows ancient Greek better than a lot of Classics profs.

Jack's a very good guy: we had some professional assignments that brought us intofrequentregular contact. Very soft-spoken, very smart (although I was never impressed with his work on chiasmus, which is what he is best known for in apologetics circles). Dan Peterson is actually very smart (though not as smart as he thinks he is) and very witty (though not not as witty as he thinks he is). He tends to squander his considerable talents on meaningless pissing contests on the internet and is not very self-aware. Come to think of it, he would be a perfect fit on CS.

On the tour last year, a few of us spent a couple of hours with Jack as he talked about how he stumbled on chiasmus, and he gave me a lengthy slide presentation about both the subject (the topic and the discovery). What I found most interesting was how much time he spent throughout his mission researching, attending lectures at a couple of German universities, and corresponding with Hugh Nibley. His mission experience was vastly different from mine. I'm not all that impressed with chiasmus, either, but I'm very impressed with Jack's industry.

I’ve decided to stop blogging on this web site. I’ll leave it up for a few weeks, and then I’m going to delete it.
There will be no further blogs, nor comments posted."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

Yeah, I wonder too. If you watch his other videos, you'll see they're equally entertaining, but a little less...cynical? The thought hadn't crossed my mind after seeing his other ones, but this one made me wonder a little.Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostFunny. Wonder if that guy a church-going Mormon.

I like the tone of those videos. The thing about most people who are interested in Church history (whether ex-mo, prog-mo, or ortho-mo) is that they take this stuff way too seriously. These historical topics really are funny and interesting if you don't let yourself get worked up about things. Obviously and unfortunately, most people are incapable of that casual approach to these topics.Last edited by CardiacCoug; 09-27-2013, 01:24 PM.

lol, you know if I had to list people on message boards that violated Godwin's Law most often, I think I would put SU and DCP #1 and 2.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostStill plugging away.
