Church not doing anything with scouts now

Usually when one says "the most since ..." that implies that the past time period was more than the current numbers. Why would the BSA flout that convention?

BSA said "the most ever". I added "the most since". Mostly because I thought it was interesting that in some respects the numbers have been relatively flat since that peak - and then peaked again this year. Here's the numbers since 2000 so you can look at the trends and come up with your own interpretation:

I just got one this morning that caught my attention for touting that 2019 was the largest class of Eagle Scouts EVER! 61,353 - the most since 2012, when there were 58,659.

I still get occasional emails from BSA due to my position in the church - including newsletters. I just got one this morning that caught my attention for touting that 2019 was the largest class of Eagle Scouts EVER! 61,353 - the most since 2012, when there were 58,659.

They break it down by all kinds of categories, including state. Utah, of course, came in 1st among all states with 9,723 new Eagle Scouts. Next closest was California, with 5,534 new Eagles.

I know the numbers were bumped by a bunch of LDS kids trying to get it wrapped up quickly before the end of the year. It would be interesting to see how many they get next year. I think they'll still get a little bump from some LDS kids finishing up - there's a kid in our ward who finished in January and is just getting the paperwork processed now - but I suspect there will be a pretty steep drop going forward. I just don't think adding girls is going to replace all of the LDS troops.

Scouting will be around long after the Roll-Your-Own/Parent-Created-and-Church-Unsupported youth inactivity program has changed to something new and shiny.

I dunno. If they stop trying to coerce me into donating $120 every year to support the local boy scout council, it can't be all bad.

There of course stoping all involvement in January. They won,t even allow troops to use the buildings anymore. They can,t use the building for commercial of political activities. I am sure homemeaking does some demobstrations and I a, sure some youth career exploration takes place there.

But church buildings are used for 4h activities and musical recitals. Can,t use them for home school anymore. Can,t recruit in church scouts people. Like 4h boys club girls scouts, school activities can participate in them church won,t sponsor them, or even use church for those activities.

Scouting always has been a big push in the church, heard people that get Eagles have a higher rate of missionary service. People that get Eagles are the type of people to go on missions. In Neal A,s bio were he quote institute graduation to people,that go on missions and marry in the temple a higher rate. People that go on missions and marry in the temple are generally people that go to institute.

I was selected to go to order of the arrow and heard people I know would be there in the fall. I would playing football. There are more important things than football. An appendectomy kept me from making either choice.

Heard former sp member brother didn,t quite finish some scout thing and now inactive in church. Doubt that is the reason.

Had family in Ward padre was in Stake Young Men's presidency and kid called butt wipe in scouts. Went to temple and prayed told not to go to cub scouts. Divorced now wife got tangled up with someone leading people astray. He volunteered to teach when opportunity came.

No more scout conflicts and building can,t he used for scouts. Can,t go to church to recruit scout leaders. Seperate volunteer organization members donate time, no longer with the church, drivers liscence tell you get eagle on and on.
