I hope this is true, I have my doubts the number is that low but I hope it is. I'm sure the number up here in Rexburg is much higher, it's to bad someone from Provo can't come up and tell them they are being real dicks about it.
You gave your two cents at East Idahonews as well. Didn,t mention petition to bring back intercollegiate athletics to the campus though.

    • It’s weird some of you guys feel like you have to defend the honor code office. It really is.

This HCO debate illustrates everything that is wrong with public discourse in the age of social media. You and funk aren’t interested in rationally and fairly discussing the facts. You just want to burn the place to the ground. Hey let’s believe all the anonymous outrage being posted even though we are only hearing one side of these accounts (the other side is restricted by privacy rules). And let’s assume the worst motives and worst behavior for everyone involved and mock anyone who doesn’t garb a torch and has the nerve to attempt a little objectivity because by golly, that’s how things are done now. Outrage culture at its finest.

Okay, I'll engage. Tell me all the good things the HCO has done. I'm listening.

Funk, your typical binary thinking has led you to believe that my position is that the "HCO and BYU does not wrong", which is absurd. Believe it or not, it is possible to find a middle ground in things like this. All I have done is describe some very significant changes that have been made recently to how the HCO office operates and to correct some obvious factual errors and misconceptions. I would be happy to see some additional changes. But a complete elimination of the HC or HCO is just not realistic.

            • Anyone have the time or ability to go to the honor code protest today and give us a report?

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. How is asking for evidence of good a binary thinking? What are these changes that have been made and how do they make things better for students?

From my perspective, I haven't seen you do anything but criticize those that criticize the honor code office.

You are right, it is not going away.

                  • I realize I represent minority opinion here, but I don't care if consenting BYU students (and especially its athletes) have consensual sex. I also don't care if said students drink and then find rides home responsibly. I do care quite a bit about BYU athletics and see the HCO as a huge net negative in terms of its direct impact to something I care about. So far that reason, I think the scrutiny the HCO office has received is a good thing.

I'm not sure I understand Funk's position as someone who hates BYU athletics. He should be a huge fan of the HCO.

                          Haha. Yes. Makes no sense.

You want BYU to be a secular university with a strong football team. That's fine, but that is not what the BoT wants (the secular thing).

Because it’s indefensible. And the only attempted defense is a modified “Fake News!” As for the idea that the HCO isn’t going anywhere? I’m pretty sure we’ll have some revelation on that shortly. Either that or they’ll get rid of it and say they didn’t.
