    cumorah.com

www.cumorah.com who has visitited that website? I first came to it and seemed to be some know it all rm who knew everything about member missionary work. RAiled on dinner appointments for missionaries. Actually in most places missionaries still get fed bymembers. Thing is white bible says customary dinner hour in the area and it is ineffective to proselyte during dinner.

May have lots of quotes but I think it was put together by some know it all rms who know everything about member missionary work.

One of my mission goals was to never read the white bible. I think it was one of the few goals that I actually achieved.

Our mission decided that missionaries could not go to members houses for dinners anymore about 5-6 years ago. I had just been put in as WML and let me tell you it sucked. The members of the ward had no idea who the missionaries were and the missionaries grew to think that the ward was a bunch of losers.

When I called to talk to the mission president about it he told me that he had received more complaints about taking away dinners than anything he had ever done before in his life personally or professionally, and that he was very sorry. Dinners appointments were allowed again and the MP came to at least our stake conference and gave a heartfelt apology.

Anyone that thinks dinner appointments are a waste of time knows next to nothing about missionary work.

I agree with you, but I think members could and should be encouraged to have less actives or potential investigators in their home when the missionaries come. It doesn't have to even be a formal thing where the guests are interested in the church, just to have the missionaries over for a casual dinner with friends would do a lot to help the members get to know the missionaries and could potentially be a great finding tool.

I would not personally ever invite over a non-member or less active and surprise them with the missionaries also being there. Of course you could invite them and tell them it was dinner with the missionaries and that they are dropping by. You never know.

I would not personally ever invite over a non-member even if they were not surprised if I had not already met with and personally vetted the missionaries. Any friends I have at this point will have thoroughly Googled our religion to death and will thus likely have questions for which a simple answer won't cut it. We've had a bunch of good sets come through here lately, although I'm still reserving judgment on the newest Elder.

One successful approach that has worked for use with some friends -- always the ones we know well -- is just to have the missionaries at our house a lot, whether dropping by for a glass of water or having dinner. Those close friends are now very accustomed to seeing and being around the elders (or sisters) and have no fear of them. That's a very good thing, I think.

I agree with this. For about half of my mission, the area presidency came in and said that we weren't allowed to have dinner with members unless an investigator was there.

It wasn't a good policy and was reverse the last few month of our mission.

Dinner appointments do serve a purpose. Keep costs down though I served with very budget impaired missionaries. Get done at reasonable hour and don't spend too much time they work great. I hear have to be done by 6 in some cases. proselyting during dinner not effective and most men are not home by that time.

I don't know how the webmaster saved time by saying he was too busy to eat. Tract and teach by da. I had zone leader in my district that was real stickler for all rules no matter what when half hour or hour was up we are out of here. His attitude cost da's for furute missionaries too. That is when I was first out.

Last week we were there a little long as dishes were not done. I mea zl passed up desert at sp's house to keep from staying too long. I mentioned to comp we need to not spend as much time than he reminded me why we were trapped. That day at same house had investigator there. HE was a bit weird and could not be baptized do to probation. That was devastating.

SAme zl went on to be ap and was that way too as ap stickler. I knew someone that knew him after and was surprised by that response wasn't that way after.

I am not defending lengthy stays just saying I don't get the webmasters attitude on dinner appointments they are very effective. And some people would be rude to be obedient. They have a place in missionary work.
