I a doubt Seventy get press box seats at football games so will be sitting in regular stands. If you sit by one staring at 50 yard line something may be up. Howard W. Hunter was not a huge sports fan. Didn,t don Boise Braves uniforms, read where he did call in score for local paper but sports did not spike his interest.
His kids were. Good athletes and into sports though, Howard was stake President and came to see new grand baby and spend time with kids. Including Fridays football game with Utah. Howard was staring at 50' yard line whole time and John or Richard was saying Dad action at 10 yard line thinking game did not pike his interest. Local HS music teacher that way. Game will be close and he will be reading novel tell band plays again. Some kids did cross country but none on other sports teams did play in band. Will talk about sports from time to time but not someone he is real interested in.
Howard finally told his kids about his call. So if you are sitting by someone presumably from Seventy that is looking at 50 yard line and not at game good chance he could be next Apostle.

So you think people are more authentic in brief face-to-face meetings vs long-term posting over many years on the internet?Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View Post:eyeroll: yeah in person is where people put on a persona, not here.
Also damn you for making me agree with Topper and making him the one making sense.

You really think people are their "realest" self in person as opposed to behind a computer screen and internet avatar?Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View Post:eyeroll: yeah in person is where people put on a persona, not here.

So, just to be sure, you think that in real life LA Ute is more complimentary to BYU and actually means it?Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostIf you two mean that people act like what they think they are or wish they were behind an Internet avatar then I don't disagree. I think that a lot of the posters personalities here wouldn't be recognized by their friends, family, Ward members, coworkers.

you went the extra mile. I just was looking at who did the sustaining of Church officers and assumed it happened then.Originally posted by All-American View PostAre you sure about that? I distinctly remember President Hinckley announcing the names during the opening remarks of the first session of the October 2004 conference.
Of course he doesn't have to be the one who announces the names. He could have his secretary do it two weeks from now, for all I care. I just know it is common for the President to announce the new Apostle during his opening remarks, and that President Monson gave his "opening remarks" during the Sunday morning session during the last conference.
EDIT: President Hinckley announced the filling of the vacancies in the morning of the October 2004 session. President Monson announced Elder Anderson's calling in the morning session of the April 2009 session. President Uchtdorf announced the calling of D. Todd Christofferson during the Saturday morning session of April 2008 (but that was an unusual setting-- the solemn assembly in which President Monson was sustained). So since 2004, the common practice has otherwise been for the President of the Church to announce the name in the opening session of conference.

I distinctly recall raising my arm to the square to sustain Mack Wilberg in 2008. Ask AA if he remembers. I think you'll find that his prodigious memory can be somewhat selective.Originally posted by pellegrino View Postyou went the extra mile.
