Does this mean that it is against the law to have plural-wives, but it is legal to have plural-wyves? When does having multiple partners break the law?
I think the bigamy laws protect innocents who don't know that their spouse is married to someone else.

My dad's comment is "why would i want to double or triple my misery?" (He really does worship my mom if you were wondering)

Doesn't Rodney Dangerfield or Richard Lewis, have some joke about having a menage a trois and now having two dissatisfied or upset women instead of the usual one?

I am pretty sure it was Dangerfield, regardless, that is a perfect comment.

Thanks. I will think about that one just when I have run out of breath and stopped running and screaming. It will help me get started again.

Even though the second marriage is "void" in the eyes of the law (it views it to not exist), if it is valid on its face (that is, the license was obtained and the ceremony performed) and the person is already married, that is what constitutes the crime. Interestingly, in my state, if the second spouse knows there is a first spouse, they are guilty of being an accessory and atr punished just like the principle is. Class 4 felony here, 2-10 years.

                • This is a ridiculous thread. What a hysterical mix of jurisprudence, history and hypotheticals.

IF polygamy gets reinstated... then polyandry had better be reinstated, too. If my husband takes another wife, I'll take another husband. Perhaps we can all develop Christlike love by learning to share and share alike. If anyone argues that polygamy is good for women, I'll argue that polyandry is good for men. (I'm sure I could come up with something.) Hey... and why shouldn't the church take a "big" step and add Celestial polyandry right now? US law doesn't need to match Celestial law, right? Maybe we're all thinking about this wrong and the truth is that monogamy is selfish. Why not righteously make love to anyone you love... especially if you are willing to stir in a little commitment?

And, more seriously, why on earth does our church have SO much to say about sex?

Sheesh... talk about the possibility of a PR/correlation nightmare (it would be pretty entertaining to watch).

                  • I wouldn't do it....can't share a house with another woman...already did for 6 years with my MIL.... However, I see it all the time with the guy who has had a kid with multiple partners, in a sense, that is modern day polygamy too. If, of course, he's taking care of his responsibilities and not being a coward. lol.

                      Interesting point. Serial polygamy!

Men couldn't handle Polyandry....the comparison would be too harsh.

                        • What does the church do if and when gay/lesbian polygamy is legalized?

Here comes the bride. And another one. And another one! Meet world's first married lesbian THREESOME . . . and they're expecting a baby due in July

The world's only 'married' lesbian threesome are expecting their first child.
Doll, Kitten and Brynn, from Massachusetts, were joined together in a marriage-style ceremony last August and are expecting a daughter in July.

Kitten, 27, is pregnant after undergoing IVF treatment using an anonymous sperm donor, and the trio eventually plan to have three children - one for each of them

The plan at the moment is that Kitten will bear all the children - possibly using her wives' eggs and donated sperm - but they are open to other options, such as adoption.

Brynn, 34, says: 'The hope is to have three kids altogether. We always joke that the children should never outnumber the parents.'
Doll, Kitten and Brynn Young married in a ceremony in August 2013, when each of their fathers walked them down the aisle. All three women wore white wedding gowns and exchanged rings.
