I am a moderate Democrat. People at the far ends of both parties contribute to my frequent sighs, eye rolls, and chuckles.

Mostly, people like to claim to be a progressive Democrat, which I interpret to mean radical, unyielding and unwilling to consider economic arguments of the costs of government and whether the argument that aggregation of demands cannot be modified by government spending.

I'm pro-life and I don't like the way identity politics are used to exacerbate conflict. Those facts alone make me highly suspect in the eyes of true lefties.

When I moved from BYU to Tulane, I didn't change, but I went from being a bleeding-heart liberal to a staunch holy-shit-you-voted-for-Bush conservative.

The fascinating aspect is having different positions based upon sectors or issues. I'm considered an enigma, being staunchly libertarian as far as personal liberties are concerned, neo-classical in terms of economic theory and monetary-fiscal policy, while somewhat avant garde in terms of educational approaches.
