  • OW in the Snow

Is it fair to conclude that the Church is treating those in the OW movement as ciphers in the snow?

In other words, is the Church treating members of the OW movement as nonentities and letting negative discourses gradually reduce them to what they perceive them to be--apostates?

That is the Church's MO in the past. I see nothing to dissuade us from that conclusion.
"Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

Um...they (bishops/stake presidents) excommunicated the founder and have called most if not all of the members of the board for interviews. Am I misunderstanding what you mean here?
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I don't think it is the churches duty to promote them. They should do their own promoting. I think the press would love to help them out.

I also doubt the church thinks of them as apostates any more than they think of a golfer having a beer on the golf course as an apostate.

          Exactly.

Now I'm feeling like I completely missed the message when my seminary teacher showed "Cipher in the Snow" all those years ago.

We should have some kind of private thread where posters can confess to the bishops on the board. I'd choose BigPiney of I have major confessions, seems like he's cool and would be like "Hey, don't do it that much anymore, ok?"

Yeah, I'm not fully understanding the OP either. The church certainly didn't ignore them and in fact openly attacked them in conference through a couple talks.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Great idea. PAC and Art V., two former Bishops, have actually witnessed my sinning on the golf course. Is that a form of confession or would I have to verbally confess anyway?

Perhaps a better question... Is the Church treating the OW movement like Tom Trails? On again off again with Lilly, and finally the big break up.

I think the Church is treating OW more like The Phone Call*, where both parties are really nervous to talk to each other but when they finally do it winds up being pretty cool.

Of course I am aware of the conference talks and much publicized courts of love. When I refer to "the OW movement," I'm not talking about OW's high profile leadership or members of the board. I'm talking about all of the folks out there who sympathize with OW, who see themselves as supportive, and who are being left to be diminished by the negative discourse.

                        I hope this helps.

When I first watched Cipher in the Snow in seminary, I thought of the boy who collapses and dies as being like "Us" or "the Mormons." We are so desperate for affirmation.

Maybe we've turned the corner and become like those who treat the boy like a nonentity.

That's weird. When I first watched it I thought about being nice to the poor, afflicted and down-trodden, you know, kind of like JC was, but hey, that's just me.
