Sustaining the Prophets
Ugh. I had to go look that one up. What a fun, "go get 'em," uplifting speech for all those new graduates.Originally posted by Bruiserstone View PostRussell M Nelson wants to be in the discussion too. He trotted out his hardliner bonafides at the Y commencement address this past week.
"Disciples of Jesus Christ are defenders of marriage."

Yea, Nelson let me know since I support gay marriage I can't be a disciple of Christ. Then again it was Nelson who informed me a few years ago God's love is conditional, no such thing as unconditional love. What a load of horse shit. I might not agree with my kids or be disappointed with something, but I am never going to not love them. According to Nelson God is not going to love you if he does not agree with what your up to.Originally posted by Dwight Schr-ute View PostUgh. I had to go look that one up. I don't get it. "Man simply cannot make moral what God has declared to be immoral. Sin, even if legalized by man, is still sin in the eyes of God."
It almost seems like the apostles don't realize that gay people are already having sex, being "immoral" regardless of whether or not they can be legally married. Do they imagine that there are all these gay couples who are just waiting for gay marriage to be legalized so they can start being immoral?
What on earth does gay marriage have to do with immorality, other than the immorality of discrimination against gay people? The thought process of anti gay marriage folks strikes me as increasingly bizarre.

Agreed. I would expect Bednar to be in the 1st Presidency with the next opening.Originally posted by Pheidippides View PostNope. Bednar and Oaks. Give the young hardliner some cred and grooming."Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.
The rest of us rarely bother to think about our actions." --Solon

You will have many opportunities to strengthen understanding of the Lord’s side of that argument by the eloquence of your examples, both as individuals and as families.
Yeah. Pretty sure that's the whole point. There is great power in a strong partnership,” he said. “True partners can achieve more than the sum of each acting alone. With true partners, one plus one is much more than two.I told him he was a goddamn Nazi Stormtrooper.

Okay, I found that really funny.Originally posted by Green Monstah View PostEven the hard liners think he's creepy.
I reskimmed the first article and it's even weirder to me now."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Sounds like it was pretty uneventful. He asks people to be kind and uplifting and authentic and to share the Gospel through social media. Maybe he's not a crazy hardlinerOriginally posted by Dwight Schr-ute View PostApparently he's giving a talk tomorrow at BYU focusing on social media. Can't wait to hear that one.

Depends on the position. Scoutmaster is definitely accelerated (double declining balance?). Bishop is flat out impaired. YMs is probably straight line. SS Pres is kind of like land, no depreciation whatsoever and in fact it appreciates.Originally posted by Pelado View PostAny idea what the useful, depreciable life is for a person who's been called of God?
