Thoughts on this movement? Is there any talk about this in Utah? I actually know the guy who started this group. He was a die-hard, right wing Republican who had a son come out as gay at age 13. Then he turned on a dime and became a fanatical ex-mormon. Really an interesting case study on watching someone go apostate.

Anyways, here is a link to the facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/StrangersInZion

"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

They have resources to find who you should mail your letter requesting a disciplinary hearing too. Is that resource lds.org?

Are you part of the group advocating for disciplinary councils, or are you fast tracking apostasy here where the soil is fertile?

My thoughts on this movement are the same I have on a bowel movement. Let it go and move on.

Isn't that pretty much the same story for most apostates (minus the gay son part)?

When I hear the word apostate, my first thought is negative. Convert on the other hand is a positivie word. In my case I am sure the response to those words are a learned thing.

When I think about it though I don't see it as negative. Joe Jones made a choice and left the church. Why would I feel anything negative toward him because of that? Best of luck to Joe, unless of course along with his choice, he feels the need to villify my beliefs to justify his choice. No justification is needed, again best of luck.

On what grounds are these folks requesting church courts? I'm confused by that aspect of their civil disobedience. What are they claiming to have done that merits a court?

They are just mad that no one is paying attention to them.

What if I get no response?

If you receive no response from your local leaders we recommend resending your request and copy a higher Church official.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I will guarantee that all these folks had the little tract handout "17 Points of the True Church" glued on the inside flap of their triple combination back in the day! Now they are obviously some of the most socially and emotionally adjusted adults.

I could be wrong but it does not strike me as a movement that will have much longevity. But for the interim if it makes them feel better, then goodonem!
