So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

Interesting article. I didn't know the history of confession.
"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

The LDS version of confession seems a little messed up. Kids feel like a talk with the bishop is what gives them forgiveness of sins where in reality it should just be one step in seeking help to overcome a sin. Perhaps kids feel this way because of bishops who act like judge, jury and executioner. I think it is slowly changing but it has a ways to go. FTR I think the Catholic way was more messed up.

A Bishop who would allow a kid to feel like a talk with him was what gives that kid forgiveness is a blasphemer. A Bishop should never allow one to forget the source of forgiveness.

I think it would be really cool if people would post their stories of strange bishops and the crazy questions they ask and actions taken wrt confession. I'll bet somewhere out there there are some real crazy stuff to be told!

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

99.9% of sins don't require a bishop confession in Mormondom. I think Mormonism gets it mostly right in this regard although there could be more instruction on when to confess to a bishop to save the sinner a lot of grief and to save the bishop a lot of time. I'd also say that most bishops (at least in my experience) are very up front that they cannot forgive sins and that only comes from God. Granted I don't think any sins should require bishop confession, but kudos to Mormonism for making the relationship with God closer than some other religions.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf
