Yikes. I know an elder in this mission. His mother was just telling me how safe it was.

That sucks. Sounds like they were roughed up pretty good.

Further demonstrating that prayers for safety in our journeys, safety in missions, safety in missionary work, and safety amongst the brethren, are hallow. Just words that hit the ceiling. People will do unto others as they always have and there is no divine intervention.
Or are we supposed to see it as God did in fact intervene and spared them all from being mowed down?
Sigh. In all things, there is a side to choose.

Maybe they forgot to pray. Did you ever think of that? That is really sad. I can see taking the money, but breaking an arm? I really hope the assailants weren't black, otherwise we are going to have to listen to the likes of Hallelujah saying "I told you so".Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostYikes. My dad got robbed at gun point 3 times and car jacked once when he was the mission president in Cote D'Ivoire (Ivory Coast). It was obvious that someone from within the Church was tipping off the robbers. He said his biggest fear was that the gangsters were so poor at what they were doing that they would accidentally shoot him by their gun going off or something like that.
Third world countires can be dangerous places, especially if you obviously have money.

That is pretty bad, I guess when you are white and live in these foreign countries there is a misconception of having $$$ just laying around.
I have been trying to find out about how safe it is in Ghana as a white missionary, looks like my son will be there at the end of the summer. I'm not overly concerned, just curious if there is reason to be concerned?Let's get on with the gettin' on....

I just talked to one of my close friends from our mission who is married to the youngest of the Nelson children. He said that Elder and Sister Nelson are fine and that it looks like this was just a random act of violence. The Mission President's daughter is in our ward and is a good friend of ours.
We Mormons are a small community -- seems like there are only about 2-3 degrees of separation at most between any two of us.

Isn't that the truth? If it used the LDS church as it's model, that horrific ride at Disneyland would be shorter and less suffering would occur.Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostThe Mission President's daughter is in our ward and is a good friend of ours.

That article says the Church doesn't have complete information yet. How can that be? Are there no phones in Mozambique?Originally posted by Fiyero View PostNew details:

"Hello, Elder Nelson, this is Salt Lake calling. What happened?"
"Oh Hai, Salt Lake. We're not quite sure what happened, even though my wife and I were right there in the thick of things. We'll get back to you later, we have a Stake Conference to go to, as planned."Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.
