Read this earlier this am. I can't tell you how much I dislike the cold pass along card tactic. Let people find happiness where they may, even if you think they are brainwashed. If somebody is seeking something and/or thinking about leaving, that's a different matter.

There were a couple of other things, like the insinuation that Mormons don't do yoga, that made me scratch my head. But the alcohol 101 bit made me laugh. A neverMo friend today found the article interesting.

I don't get it. So much effort. Twice a week meetings? Proselytizing efforts wherever you go? I guess I can't really predict how I would act but I have always thought if I left the church I wouldn't fill my time talking about the church for the rest of my life.

And don't get me started on the heathen lunches at Olive Garden.

The alcohol section was a little strange. Lets not only teach everybody how to drink but lets get them drunk.

Don't they know that's what the Mormon Stories conferences are for?

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

They use LDS sacrament cups to hold their rum for their drinking sessions?

My only takeaway is that if I leave the Church I can apparently land a much, much younger blonde yoga instructor as a girlfriend. Thinking...

Yeah, that's using the term "support group" pretty loosely.

I didnt get the mormons/yoga thing. I've never heard that one before.

There is a modicum of humor imaging these goofballs purposely staying at Marriott Hotels in order to place a single card into a copy of the BOM. It would be cheaper and probably more successful to simply stand around on the street and hand out some cards to passersby.

Seems like such efforts are sinister but at their core how different are they from traditional proselyting? Both groups think they have good intentions. but there is something jerkish about these people.

Of my friends and family members who no longer believe in the church, they mostly just let it go and go about their daily lives. A lot of it probably has to do with respect to family members, friends, and colleagues who are still in the church. But I think some of it has to do with just not dwelling on it. However, I realize that some people experience a lot of pain because of the church or things done in the name of the church.

Some former adherents act like soldiers for an ex-Mormon liberation army, seeking out the doubters within the church, extracting them, and bringing them to more tolerant territory. They plaster their calling cards all over, even slipping them, as McKinnon did, "in the Mitt Romney books at the grocery store."
Seems like a totally healthy obsession past-time!

That is a great blurb and it explains a lot. Specifically, now I know why people are still picking up Mitt Romney books and looking at them.

I've always said that the TBM crowd and the fervent exMo crowd are mirror images of one another. I admit I laughed at the sacrament cup thing, but it's intentionally sacrilegious. I imagine it turns some of the exmo people off too - I hear about all sorts of people who think the church is bunk and corrupt, have moved on, but still would never dream of revealing their temple name for whatever reason.

It's the same concept as temple square protesters during conference, or missionary messages on Facebook. The chances of converting somebody to your way of thinking are very small. People have to change on their own, and it's not like the information isn't out there.
