  • All Women General Conference Meeting?

    http://www.deseretnews.com/article/8...ls.html?pg=all

"All women, young women, and girls 8 years of age and older will be invited to attend," the letter states. "These meetings will take the place of the previous general Relief Society and general Young Women meetings and will be conducted by the general presidencies of the Relief Society, Young Women and Primary organizations.
Seems like a good move. I also didn't know this:

The change is a return to past practice. From 1984 to 1993, a general meeting was held for all women and young women.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Based on a reading of your link, I would say the answer to the question you ask in your thread title is no.

        Hmmm.
My first thougtht is that out of necessity, this will be a very watered down meeting. 9 year olds will need to be entertained. lots of happy voices.
i guess you could have 3 talks: primary, YM, RS.
        I intend to live forever.
        So far, so good.

Will they have a member of the FP preside and give a talk?

It isn't a general conference meeting (not sure why you even bothered with that when it is clear it isnt a GC meeting) and instead of having two meetings annually there will now only be one. Not sure how this is progress.

            Enjoy your lunch.

Any time there are fewer church meetings, it's a sign of progress!

Except when the reduction in church meetings is another sign of oppression and marginalization.

I think there will still be 2 meetings. This new meeting replaces the both the General Women's meeting in September and the Young Womens meeting in March.

There aren't fewer. Now the week before the big show is the Woman's meeting instead of alternating between RS and YW.

It seems really weird to include 8-11 year old girls. I'm sure they'll be thrilled to go to that meeting.
It's almost as if they refused to make the meeting resemble the priesthood session in any way.

It's probably to give the Primary Presidency something to do.

Why aren't men invited to these meetings? Do I have to stand in line for tickets?

According to Des News, Relief Society and young women used to meet together from '84-'93, when it was changed to have separate annual meetings. I asked my wife if she went to any of those meetings when she was a wee one. She remembers going to one right after she was baptized, but only rarely after. So I guess it's a return to the past. Still, it seems like a weird meeting.

I'd like to thank the brethren for announcing this. My wife has always been hesitant about publicly sharing her opinion in favor of ordaining women. This patronizing gesture as a reaction to the OW group has pretty much pissed her off. I haven't seen her this pissed in . . . well, a while and I expect she will become increasingly vocal in her support of OW as a result. This has been quite a watershed moment in our household.
