In an interesting development, my ward just got a new EQ President. As one of his first acts on the job, he has decided that he wants to have a "School of the Prophets." Essentially, he wants to get the bretheren in the EQ together once every other month and discuss "deep" doctrinal items.

This is an interesting development to me because he a long with two other elders in our ward appear to have very structured what some might call "patriarical" homes. Their wives aren't necessarily wallflowers perse, but there is NO question who is in charge especially on spiritual matters in the home. I guess what is interesting is that I wouldn't peg these three for "deep doctrine" type figures, but earlier today I overheard our EQ president talking to one of our missionaries about the location of the Earth at various stages of the creation, during and after the fall, and where it will be and what it will become during the millenium. He seemed to have good information, or at least he speaks confidently about what he knows.

I might have to check it out and report on the goings on. Maybe I'll even invite UD down to attend.

What a waste of time. Questions like this seem ridiculous to me -- nobody can "figure out" the answers to these question. And these question have no practical application -- it's pure abstract speculation.

Think of all the practical things that these Elders could be doing to help people in their families, wards, or communities -- instead they sit around talking out of their asses about this abstract theological nonsense?

I wonder if this guy is one of my old MTC teachers. The man wouldn't let us go until we had discussed some point of space doctrine, no matter what. He said he got it all from his mission president. I don't remember anything that he said, but I do remember that he's the one who taught us what pinkeln meant.

I advise you to steer clear, DnF. My spidey sense is tingling "far right whacko study group" and I'm thinking of the Laffertys, the Skousen study groups, the Bo Gritzers, and/or the KTKK crowd.

Maybe your best strategy is to tell the SP and offer to join the group as a mole. You'd get some excitement in your life that way.
