Stay longer than an hour for dinner, Go get a gallon of milk if they run out on a day other than preparation day or go to store for other reasons, Glance at a tv that happens to be on in someone's home, Read something not in mission library, Glance at a newspaper heading or sports score, Enter home of opposite sex to teach, be a bit argumentive sometimes. Wear nonproselyting attire while shopping on P-day, Use mission slang, Be away from companion for a few seconds or minutes and be alone, get in late, sleep in or stay up late and a few others.
I hear stories if I would not of been doing what I was supposed to be doing or were I was supposed to be than I would not of found this person. Or my only way of getting in or talking to this person was to disobey this rule, Than here there were many more people you could of taught if you were obedient to that rule.
Baptisms do not equal obedience and they can't take place without someone else's agency. Some not so obedient missionaries out baptized sticklers to rules. I remember reading a book by Randy Bott were ZL kept coming in late. He chatted with him on way to airport about it and said how many mistakes did it take to disquailify the savior. Headed to airport on way home would not be my way of dealing with a situation like that. Last impression of mission president.
Think is since we all make mistakes Jesus atoned for them. None of the prophets are perfect yet got the job done. Moses got pissed and struck rock and took credit for it yet lead the children of Israel. Missed promised land. Brother of Jared forgot to pray with intensity for some time a bit complacent yet led his family and friends across sea.
Several ot prophets had shortcomings. Lehi got pissed at Nephi over broken bow and Nephi felt bad over his sins. Peter got rebuked terribly for some things yet was great prophet that restored priesthood in our day.
Joseph Smith a little too trusting of Martin Harris and did not stand up for right thing and without 20/20 hindsight who can blame him.
We don't expect GA's, our Stake President or Bishop or Quorum Presidents to be perfect yet they get the job done. Church run by imperfect people.
Heard sayings missionaries would of destroyed church a long time ago. Thing is it is great that in spite of imperfections missionaries still bring souls here. I am not saying look for reasons to be disobedient under "spirit of the law" You of course should keep rules spiritual blessings.
However don't stress unduly over the rules is my advice for people going out. Since the church runs with imperfect people people will come with imperfect missionaries who strive to do what is right in spite of mistakes from time to time. You won't come home over most of the aforementioned things unless it is blatant and repeated. People still come to church notwithstanding weaknesses.
Interesting to read books and blogs of people that know what to do on missions. What makes there opinion greater than any others. We all have good stuff and this is some of mine.
