Guilt by association. Time to find a new strategy.
Yikes, atheist missionaries are 10x worse than LDS missionaries.

MJ and I discussed OW last night and it was interesting to get her take on it. She feels that women either don't need the PH to do healings or blessings and she feels that in someway she has the PH already through the endowment. She's a bit more open minded about the whole thing than I thought she'd be but maybe that is due to listening to me for all these years...

I'll be darned. Church will not attempt to block access or force them to free speech zone. 500 women participating.

By "block access" you mean access to temple square and not the conference center right?

Yes, they will be blocking access to the Lord's mall instead.

Yes. The letter instructed them to stay in the free speech zone. But they will go right to Conf center.

They are going to get the church where it hurts...

If rejected, they will return to City Creek
All those conference goers will now avoid shopping at the mall.

              • What happens if someone tries to walk inside? Will guards pounce? That would be an interesting strategy. Skip the ticket line and simply send one or two people inside....preferably one of them being a smaller female child or teen. Once the security guards get physical, whip out the cell phone cameras.

                • Do any of you have suggestions as to which Channel in SLC will provide the most non-bias coverage of this historical event? I have an open mind and don't want to be persuaded by biased coverage.

Which channel will be showing the Jazz game?

The church is simply helping to drive the Utah economy by encouraging more and more groups to make Salt Lake their annual hub.

One thing I don't get about this is their claim that Temple Square is "holy ground" ... as if going to Priesthood session in the conference center is some kind of sacred Hajj-like pilgrimage to Mecca or something. That is just self-serving rhetoric Kelly is using to try to make this out to be something more significant than what it is ... a protest. I have no problem with these women protesting the priesthood session, but I don't understand why their belief that the ground is holy means they should be treated any differently than any other protestor.

Obviously, from a political standpoint, the Church taking action against protestors that claim to be active members is going to look different than taking action against those that are openly antagonistic ... but that kind of reinforces my suspicion that they are using their status as "active members" to put the Church in a bad light. Why not just live by the rules everyone else that has a bone to pick with the Church lives by? The law is very clear that your right to protest ends once you are on private property. Much of Temple Square is private property. I really don't have any problem with the concept of giving women the priesthood, and actually hope that they are right that this is a matter of policy that can be changed. But I'm not a big fan of the tactic of forcing the Church to choose between enforcing their property rights and looking bad in the Tribune (although the Trib does its best to make the Church look bad every chance it gets) or letting protestors hiding behind the shield of "active membership" disrupt the right of other members to attend conference in peace. Chances are these women will be respectful and not cause any big disruption, but they are setting a precedent that is likely to cause trouble in the future ... and eventually the Church will take a zero tolerance stance to all protestors, regardless of their claimed membership status (or belief about the holiness of the ground).

Holy cow, who is making these decisions? Yes, let's piss off the media. That will make this all go away.

Queue the national media. Hopefully this doesn't interrupt my regular scheduled national news. I would hate to miss an important update on that Malaysia 370 flight reporting that they still haven't found anything.

As far as the national media goes, I don't think leaders care what they think. They are after a target group. I don't know what they are called now, but back in the 60's they were called "golden contacts".

As Bronco stated, we are looking for special players to attend BYU. Bold enough to even say, they will recruit us.

The Target group will see the story in the media and will be positively influenced despite the media spin. Remember, these are the last days and the wheat is being seperated from the chaff. I am so saddened to see so many people on here whom I have grown to like falling into the chaff group. I wonder if the folks in the higher kingdoms can chat on a board with those in the lower kingdoms. I would hate not being able to continue our discussions.
