I couldn't get past her straw man in the intro without laughing.

Interesting argument, but it is one perspective to argue you shouldn't have to act just as men to be valued, but the difference is the lack of opportunity to serve in the same capacity. However, a much better argument than has been promoted previously.
"Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

The argument I was waiting to hear was the one that the priesthood - as - hierarchy model is inherently patriarchal and that women participating is nothing more than perpetuating patriarchy. That's one I've heard before that has some merit.

I would think that the idea God is male or that at the very least we don't openly worship, pray to and give credit to a heavenly mother would bug at least a good percentage of the women in OW.

Do you have any insight into why the Priesthood thing is so irritating but a male diety standing alone is not?

The "not wanting her name used in vane" theory doesn't cut it with me. It used to sound good, not so much anymore.

The heavenly mother point was the cause of at least one of the September Six ' s discipline.

It doesn't help that the lone reference is in an Eliza R. Snow dirge. And the Adam - God doctrine doesn't help either.

Which brings me to another point. The Greeks and Romans had all sorts of gods with all sorts of traits, and some of them were quite sinister. How do we know that the God of the Mormons isn't a trickster sinister god? Or, put differently, let's pretend that the whole war in heaven narrative in Abraham is true. If it is, how do we know the God of Mormonism isn't really Lucifer?

Abstract thoughts like this used occupy my mind an inordinate amount of time a couple years ago.

I pretty much stay away from those thoughts. I find when I start having to have answers to everything I start wandering into the realm of "maybe the atheists are right". On God being male when I have wandered there and need an answer the only one I come up with is early man was "male" dominated and thus diety for the most part was male. I don't know my Roman and Greek God's all that well, but it seems that while there were both male and female Gods and Godesses, the head God was male.

I personally am comfortable in just not knowing the answer to somethings. I can see how myself and those of my persuasion can be frustrating to those who need an "answer". If only this group of people (those who don't need an answer) would open their eyes, then the church could move forward in a more progressive manner.

In other news, I've decided that I am Hindu now. I go to yoga twice a week and I like all the artwork depicting Vishnu.
