Say you had a very wealthy family going back 200 years, and this family's wealth was tied to a trust system that redistributed money in a way such that no descendant ever went hungry. Would you consider that redistribution of wealth "charitable giving"? Or more simply, if I give my cousin some money to help him out, does my grandfather's family get credit for charitable giving?

The author makes a valid point about uncounted volunteer hours, but to call wealth redistribution among members "charitable giving" is a stretch.

I hope you realize now that you've made this argument you never get to complain about the mall. Ever.

IMO, the real objection people are raising isn't percentages or overall amounts donated/distributed.

It's the perceived lack of accountability & transparency.

I'm not sure how anyone, even if they support OW, could look at this gofundme and justify it. You have to be pretty pompous/arrogant/vain/pretentious/dumb to start a gofundme so that your sheep can buy you a new laptop.

Apparently she is now living in Africa. Most normal people would travel to Africa and gain new perspective about material possessions and be grateful for what they have. Some might even be moved to try to help, you know, maybe by starting a gofundme for the people that they meet in Africa who are living in poverty.

One other thing, is it normal to add Esq behind your name for people with a law degree? I have an MBA and I think that anyone who puts MBA after their name is a douchebag. But maybe it's different when you have a law degree.

Funny, I work with a lot of financial advisors, and most of them put all their certifications and degrees (CFA, CFP, MBA, CPA, etc.) behind their name. I assume this is to distinguish themselves from the masses of other advisors. It doesn't bother me none.

A lot of those documents posted to the Smoking Gun website are court documents, and those always seem to have Name, Esq. at the end.

Yes, its normal, especially on official documents. Even my email signature has Esq.
