  • Govt regulations to shut down LDS canneries

Well, thanks to Big Brother’s ulterior agenda, come June 26th there will no longer be ANY canning activity at these facilities east of the Mississippi. Unfortunately, the government entities have made it far too costly, topped with even exposure to legal liabilities to continue providing this amazing service to their communities.

I'm not buying it. Anyone else heard anything about this?
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Yes, the church made a statement after a request from timesandseasons.org:

Given the rumors circulating about closing canneries and the reasons for doing so, Times and Seasons asked the Church’s PR department for a statement and received the following:

The Church is not closing canneries and is not limiting the variety of goods available to Church members. Over time, we will be reducing the number of facilities where the packaging of dry goods occurs. Instead, Church home storage centers will offer the same or additional commodities in pre-packaged form, at no additional cost.

I'd appreciate it if you would let the speculation to for a day before killing the thread

I've seen this same article making the FB rounds recently. Not sure what to make of it. The way I read it, they will be reducing the options for the public to go and do their own canning, but rather shifting the focus to buying pre-packaged dry goods instead. Not sure what the big deal is. You get the same stuff at the same price, but someone else is doing the work for you. If I actually did any food storage, this would be a win-win for me.
