I wasn't all that persuaded by LA yesterday that the world is more wicked now that at times past, but there is new evidence that has pushed me over to his side.

Have a look at the front page of www.lds.org and particularly the immodest, tight, form-fitting clothing that shows up at around 1:18 in the video. Apparently you can't even avoid imagery that stirs the loins on the church's website.

The argument was not persuasive at all. I don't know whether it is easier now to buy drugs than it was 50 years ago. Maybe it is.

I do know that in the past 50-60 years, we have passed the civil rights act, ended segregation, women have been steadily advancing in the workplace, the Gospel is in more countries than ever before, there are more temples dotting the Earth each year, the Church is spreading the Gospel in ways previously unimagined (website, youtube channel, etc), man has developed ways to communicate globally at almost zero cost, more and more people are getting college degrees, we have elected the country's first black president, etc, etc etc etc..

But yeah, you can buy pot near schools pretty easily. So I guess the world is a more wicked place than before.

For every example of a Mark Hacking shooting his wife while she sleeps, how many couples say I love you and peacefully go to sleep? 100 million? 1 billion? Night after night?

For every drive by shooting, how many commuters safely pass by until the next shooting? 1 million? 10 million?

I think that is pretty cool. She will often wonder why I enjoy going to shows when all the kids do there is "smoke reefer."

I suppose it all depends on defining "wicked" or "evil" or "good."

But, assuming we can come up with standards by which to measure, I think the notion that today's world is more evil than ever is a bunch of baloney. We're just sentimental fools nowadays, for better or worse.

It's more fun to have a discussion, TD, when we address what each other has actually said. My last post on the subject said:

I'm just talking, based on my own experience. I agree with you that we live in the greatest of all possible times. All I'm saying it that it's tougher to grow up today than it was for me. We have been hearing that from presidents of the Church ever since I can remember listening to them.

As for the availabilty of drugs, just because of the situations I've found myself in, professionally and Church-wise, I happen have had a lot of exposure to that problem in the last 3-4 years. To me it looks like something any parent needs to be very vigilant about. We've heard about that all our lives, but it's a lot more real to me now.

The world is more secular today than it was 50 years ago. Not that secularism is a bad thing, but it is less accepted to be a religious person today than it was back then.

Which clip are you talking about? I didn't see anything 'immodest' of the videos.
