For the Boise Temple Dedication all of us in Southern Idaho had the day off Church and were to attend one of the three dedicatory sessions. I went to the 3rd and President Monson was obviously pretty tired by then. In his talk he rattled on about asking boys to kiss girls and at the end he said he always loved to come to Canada because it was like going home. Either he is starting to show signs of age or he is like every other friggin' carrot snapping ethnocentric WasatchFrontite who thinks once you leave Box Elder County you are in a foreign country.

Well not a foreign country, but you sure as hell have left ZION.

He's 3 years older than President Monson and he is in demonstrably worse health. I think there's a significantly better than 75% chance he passes away before President Monson does.

He did dedicate the Calgary Temple 3 weeks earlier. I guess it is like those rock stars or Vice-Presidents with hair implants who get the city/state/country wrong.

I'm OK with him going into David B.Haight mode. At 85 years-old, it's not like some muddled thinking is unexpected.

But the early stage weeping, whining, gnashing of teethe and stringpulling from the PROGMO crowd, which for me my entire exposure is on the venue, will be worth whatever craziness ensues.

It was really strange. He didn't tell any stories he just muddled through telling 3 different boys to kiss their dance partners from the previous night's cultural celebration put on by the good saints of the Treasure Valley. Then the Joe Biden geography lesson came.

The fellow who was the choir director for the 3rd dedicatory session was the music/band teacher in my small town about a decade ago when I moved here. He has gone bald. He did give my wife a bouquet of flowers as she volunteered to play the piano during choir.

I have an uncle from Wyoming that calls everyone from Utah a carrot snapper! I have no idea what it means but I still think it is funny.

No doubt. I've noticed a drop in his mental acuity the last few years and that he's not doing as many temple dedications and official functions as he used to do.

President Eyring has seemed a bit fuzzy of late too.

Elder Perry seems sharper than both of them. That Marine is still on active duty at age 90!

the only way the church could possibly further affected by a BKP presidency (he has already done a lot to put his stamp on the church) is if he hangs on long enough for people to really dig into the controversial things he has said in the past and if he is able in some way to distinguish himself while prophet. The perfect example being Ezra Taft Benson.

ETB was prophet for 10 years, but was lucid for only about 3-5 years. During that time he gave two major talks that are still discussed today; "Beware of Pride" and "Flood the Earth with the Book of Mormon"

I don't think most of the people who spout off the ridiculous ETB political quotes today were around or aware of him when he was in high Bircher mode. More likely they hadn't thought much about him and then he became prophet, delivered two really important talks that got people's attention and hung on as the prophet-invalid. The five years he was incapacitated allowed for the weight of his presidency time to sink in. I think that because he wasn't addressing the church regularly, a lot of members took time to read his publications and that could be one of the reasons his political views are still so prevalent among Mormons.

I think "Beware of Pride" was/is an absolutely fabulous talk. I don't recall much about the "Flood The Earth" one and as the years go by I will recall less and less. I guess it was good direction for the Church at the time, perhaps, but the talk on pride is just some great advice for life.

I agree with you about the pride talk, I just wish more leaders would live by it. Both were landmark talks, and both highly influenced LDS thought and practice.

I went to the morning session of the dedication thought of the 3rd session but didn't go. Heard about Tom saying that though. First session told about people from Guatamala coming to temple but Bus broke down. Told workers to stay there they will be coming. Cafeteria opened up and they showd up. workers opened up homes for them. Story I heard there. I guess someone in that company came to the actual session itself.
