  • The recently posted vids reminded me of a kickstarter project by the daughter of a friend. She is making a film about what it means to be LGBT at BYU - "Following the real experiences of queer BYU students." It's an interesting project and I wish them the best.

She has reached the ask amount and is beginning work on the film, but I'm sure she wouldn't turn down additional support.

    • Marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God, but same-sex marriage is only a counterfeit. It brings neither posterity nor exaltation. Although his imitations deceive many people, they are not the real thing. They cannot bring lasting happiness.

Ha! Pretty funny this came out right after the video. Talk about whiplash.

I have seen some handwringing over this article on social media and I don't get it. Did you progmos actually believe the mackintosh video signaled the end of the church's opposition to gay marriage? Help me out here.

No, it clearly didn't signal an end. In fact, the video never talked about gay marriage, from what I remember. I just find it humorous that anytime the church publicly shows support for gays, they seem to always, within a week or two, issue something that is against gays. That's why I put "Ha", not as in a funny haha, but as in an "I knew this was coming" haha.

I think we need SU to help us understand what a progmo is. I could have sworn JL was one. Or maybe he's just a company man now

              • sure, we were nice, but to avoid any confusion, we still feel being gay is a bad, bad, thing!

and one more thing - if you're gay and want to be in a committed relationship, you can't have lasting happiness.

                good luck with life!

Haha. SU likes to call me that because he knows I hate it.

I'm not a progmo, but I will help you out. No I didn't think the church was actually going to change its opposition to gay marriage.

Can you help me out here. You criticized me for being cynical. You criticized me for not seeing this as real progress and just a PR move. It seems reasonable to see this as hollow PR when the church is still trying to deny rights to homosexuals. The church can still consider homosexuality a "sin" without using such derogatory terms as calling homosexual marriage "counterfeit."

I stand by my statement on your cynicism. The fact that there are still many leaders in church opposed to gay marriage should come as a surprise to no one and in no way discounts the value of the recent video. Reasonable people understand that fundamental change takes time and patience.

Okay fundamental change takes time and patience, it also takes actual movement in the direction of change. Taking 1 step forward and 2 steps back isn't a progression towards fundamental change.

Actions speak louder than words. Anyone would have a right to be skeptical of this type of video.
