I'll tell you what, though--that quote by Uchtdorf is one of the reasons I love his talks. They're sincere and heartfelt. That is one good dude (and no, I don't think all of the 12 are particularly good dudes).Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.

I really like Uchtdorf too. Sincere and heartfelt is right. And he seems to care much more about people than policy or doctrine. Kind of reminds me of Hinckley in some ways - I always felt like he was trying to tell us to be good people and good neighbors rather than telling us to be good Mormons.Originally posted by Green Monstah View Post
I like the concept of the video - the idea that things don't always work out how you plan. And sometimes focusing on that plan causes us to miss a lot of good things around us. Also that there are multiple pathways we can take - meaning we can't sit and wait for plan A to happen if it isn't happening, sometimes we have to go forward in life.
We had an interesting meeting with the YW in our ward about a month ago. Encouraging them to pay attention to their education, make career plans, etc. They may have plans to get married, have children, and stay home. But that may not work out. We've got YW leaders who are divorced or never married and had a woman come speak to them who's husband is too sick to work.
In spite of it all we've got some YW who have no plans or aspirations. None demonstrate this better than a couple in particular who graduated from HS last spring (no longer attending YW, but the current YW know them) who have no plans to attend school, and don't feel like looking for a job. Just waiting to get married and play house, apparently.Comment

I thought the message was nice. The beginning of the video was a bit cheeseball.
The woman was not sitting around waiting to get married. She worked for her education, she was knee-deep in her career, she was actively engaged in good causes. I don't think the general message was that women should be teachers to fill the void of not having kids (although it does come off that way a bit), but rather that single women should be working and pursuing all sorts of good and praiseworthy pursuits, which can, in turn, bring happiness and blessings, as opposed to sitting around dreaming of their mansion above. The other thing the message seems to acknowledge plainly is that not everyone is getting married, so get busy living or get busy dying. sorry just being honest!
