    New Brigham Young Movie

I haven't seen any official reports or articles, but I have a sneaky suspicion the church is producing a Brigham Young movie along the same lines as the Joseph Smith movie that played in the JS Memorial Building. My suspicion comes from this picture:

I was once told that the church decided to change the JS movie slightly (something about removing a fictional narrator, IIRC) so that it would be "historically accurate". I find the historically accurate phrase funny in light of the large number of things that were left out of the movie, but whatever.

I wonder if this BY movie will portray his polygamy at all. I can't imagine it wouldn't given that he was most known for polygamy. I also wonder if it will detail his dismantling of stake power in an effort to consolidate power within the Q12 right after JS's death.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Look at the short guy right in the middle. It appears Ron Howard is part of the cast.

I think you're looking for historically "complete", not "accurate".

Let me give you an example. At the end of the movie when Joseph is martyred he is not shown shooting a pistol. In fact, he isn't even holding a pistol. Is that just a case of "not being complete" or is it more "inaccurate"?

Another example, when Joseph and Oliver are translating the golden plates, Joseph is shown simply looking at the plates. Oliver's diary is one of the first hand accounts that detail how Joseph "translated the plates" by looking into a seer stone that was placed in a hat. Is that simply "not complete"?

I can see that leaving out the polygamy/polyandry issue is "not complete" (but I'd argue they should be at least mentioned for a fair portrayal) but the examples I gave above seem to be blatant inaccuracies.

Relevance? No one in the mob was shot and Joseph and Hyrum died.

You aren't claiming that was the only way Joseph Smith translated the plates, are you? Multiple methods were apparently employed and to my knowledge no one has been able to accurately quantify how much each given method was utilized.

Probably true, Indy. But could one do a history of the 1940's without World War II that would be accurate? Probably, but it shouldn't be done.
"Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

Analogy fail. The nitpicks listed here are nowhere near as important to the totality of Joseph Smith's life as World War II was to the 1940s.

It's just odd that something that is historically known would be left out of a film that claims to portray historical events. It's not a big deal, but I think it's somewhat relevant. However, given the tone and nature of the film I doubt they'd want to portray JS as someone that fought back.

Please find me a first hand account where JS simply looked at the plates and read the translation. I honestly don't know if one exists, but you'd think that the 3 major scribes that all independently described the "stone in hat" method would warrant some portrayal in the film.

They may be filming "The Postman II". I think many people have been waiting for a sequel.

What happened in the first movie?

Kevin Costner makes friends with some wolves that he takes with him on a caterman to the top of Everest where he delivers some old letters and then runs off with his Indian wife to start a careerer as a bodyguard. I may be a little fuzzy on the details but I think that was the movie.

That's right. At the beginning he had a really bad British accent, but eventually just chucked out the accent altogether.
