I don't disagree with you, but you didn't answer my question. What if we opened the borders like I outlined above? Anyone and everyone is allowed in as long as they pass a simple background check. What would the effects be?

We would have an immediate increase in hard working people. A net positive in my book. I imagine there would be immediate competition for jobs and productivity would shoot through the roof. We would have hundreds of thousands of new customers and taxpayers. The price of goods and services would come down and the price of Real Estate would probably go up.

I don't know why people they can contribute more to the country than a guy named Jose. The only difference between us and them is that we were born here. Why does that make us more deserving?

I did, to the bishopric, and I was told, "You're right, but I didn't think I should embarrass them over a joke."

If Brother Jackson or Carraway had been in the room, the joke would've never been said and if it had, the bishopric would've fallen on them immediately. I deferred to my priesthood authority and sat and stared at them waiting for it to happen in the meeting. It did not.

Great post, but I disagree with your second point. I think there's a ton of room for illegal immigration. Nobody is going to apply for a visa to come and move pipe, landscape, milk cows, or work at a restaurant. In fact, they likely wouldn't qualify for a visa if such was their lot that they want to do those jobs. The government realizes this, and that's why we have employment authorization for illegals and why they still pay taxes and it doesn't cause a snafu in the system.

I realize that we are all territorial, but a little rationality is in order.
