-- made me think about this. Moms and dads being proud of and recognizing their sons for priesthood advancement/ordinances/etc is a big part of the church, and there's zero equivalent for young women. How could that not be incredibly frustrating and disappointing for girls?

My oldest daughter is old enough to notice such things now. She asked me a few months ago, "Why do only boys pass the Sacrament?" I disagree with the "girls have motherhood/boys have the priesthood" explanation for several reasons, so I didn't say anything like that. I told her that the church was organized a long time ago when society viewed women much differently than they are viewed today. I then told her she's a wonderful girl who can do anything anything she wants in this life and to not believe anyone who indicates differently.

It would be interesting to see the difference in boys and girls passing the sacrament. Would it be smoother and more organized or would we see a little drama.

The oldest daughter asked me this a number of years ago. He brother who was 14 at the time piped up and gave a better answer than I ever could. He said "Be happy that you don't have to do it. It sucks having to do that every week."

It’s my understanding that the standard, don’t bother me with escape to that question is; “Honey, females are inherently more spiritual than males. Us Gents need the Priesthood to bring us up closer to your level, now run along and help mom with the dinner.”

With 4 daughters the oldest of which is 17, I am heavily experienced with this answer. Albeit in much more depth as they get older, but the net result is the same.

In my experience, the thread title rings false. My daughter tends to get praised much more than my son in regard to church related issues - and for good reason. She deserves it, he doesn't most of the time.

Of course it rings false. Every six months we have reaffirmed to us that men are slovenly pervs and that the only reason women aren't taken up in a heavenly cloud right now is so they can drag our degenerative carcasses along the path to exaltation.

Comments like that are simply manifestations of guilt over the systematic subjugation of women in our church/culture.

this is a decent response, but it's not entirely accurate. I believe we've discussed women giving healing blessings to each other in the early era of the church. IIRC that didn't get completely stamped out until the 30s or 40s.

I propose we give the job of collecting fast offerings to the beehives (and their leaders, of course). If they still want the priesthood after doing that every month for 2 years, they can have it.

Yeah, women aren't put on high enough a pedestal in our church.
