New Church curriculum for the youth

The youth manuals in the Church (at least the YM manuals) are some of the most outdated materials in the Church library. The Church has recognized this and is beta testing a new program (I believe in the Boise stakes). The program attempts to coordinate Sunday School, YM and YW lessons, and is designed so that the classes are more discussions rather than the teacher spending 45 minutes reading from the manual. It also looks like it forces the teachers to spend quite a bit of time preparing for each lesson.

I am glad I was recently released from the YM's. I had the old lesson manuals pretty much memorized and could do the lesson without any prep at all (which was very useful when the guy that was assigned to do the lesson didn't show up).

Good. I don't have to feel the slight sense of guilt as I ignore almost everything in the lesson manual.

Thanks for posting this. It probably is a step in the right direction. Anything that leads to a more free discussion will be welcome. However, the generalized/leadership approved questions are still there (Why was a restoration necessary? Or what does Joseph Smith's example teach me?). Not that these questions aren't necessarily good ones. But they are the same type of questions that give you a rote answer from one kid and blank stares from the rest.

Also, I'll reserve final judgement until I see how much modesty and morality are in the new curriculum.

The church curriculum is designed by a bunch of nincompoops.

I'd much rather here a Nazi Mormon religious fanatic pontificate about random crazy shit than listen to these bland, generic lessons.
