Unbelief is a gift.
Has atheism been proved?

My reasons for believing in God are pretty simple. Life in the atheistic point of view just seems absurd and meaningless to me. If there is no God, all we are is the product of time and chance and anything we do in this life will ultimately be for nothing. That seems seriously depressing to me. I know that's not very scientific, but it's enough to convince me.
Right now I'm happy being Mormon. If I'm wrong... I'll never know.

This is one of those things that sounds nice but doesn't make any practical sense. There are plenty of gifts that are retained without being nurtured.Originally posted by Utah ma'am am I View PostA gift is something that needs to be nurtured or you lose it. Unbelief takes no effort.
Not that I agree that unbelief is a gift either. I wish I could believe the way many others here do.Last edited by Slim; 04-30-2012, 04:45 PM.

I would consider sharing my proof with others here, but I'm too concerned that some believers might not treat my proof with the respect that I believe it deserves, so I will just keep my proof to myself.

Actually for me agnosticism has not reduced the meaning of my life even a little bit. In Mormonism the ultimate purpose of life is to ultimately return back to Heavenly Father with our family. IMO, that's a lot to live for and gives purpose and meaning to this life.Originally posted by Flystripper View PostActually for me agnosticism has not reduced the meaning of my life even a little bit. Without God there is no purpose. We're the result of billions of years and chance. The entire human race will one day completely be erased and our Universe with either die a "cold death" or just cease to exist. That means that ultimately it does not matter at all what we do in this life because the outcome will be exactly the same regardless. The end result is exactly the same for the saint and the sinner. Besides a single lifetime of self-gratification, I don't see much to live for in atheism.

Chad I can respect that you feel that way. Can you see how someone else might find just as much meaning without God?Originally posted by Chadillac View PostIn Mormonism the ultimate purpose of life is to ultimately return back to Heavenly Father with our family. Are you trying to tell me that you have never engaged in self-gratification? Or that only atheists engage in it?Originally posted by Chadillac View PostBesides a single lifetime of self-gratification, I don't see much to live for in atheism.
