    Mormonism 101

This is really our new doctrine. With the passing of the generations, the old knowledge and beliefs will be lost.

This PR spin on our beliefs will become the real beliefs in a generation. While more comfortable in society, we give up much of Joseph's genius.

A Mormon president could make a perfectly patriotic, competent, inspiring leader. But not Mitt Romney. He is a husked void. --David Javerbaum

The only beef I had w that site is its reference to the WOW as a "health code."

There are some awfully strange statistics in that graphic.

If that data comes from the Pew poll, then it is based on self-reporting, and of course people will self-report as Mormon only if they are relatively active. So 77% of self-reported Mormons attend church every week, 100% of active and self-reporting members report that some portion of the Sunday worship meeting is based solely on Christ, 96% of self-reporting active members donate to religious causes (tithing), 70% participate in religious volunteering (hold a calling), etc.

They're equivocating severely in that graphic. "Members" refers to self-reported members when they're trying to make the church seem devout with all the high levels of attendance and service, but then in the very same graphic "members" refers to anyone who was ever baptized and hasn't resigned from the church (when it's time to brag about total membership). Shameless.

The "percentage of sacramental worship services that focus on Christ" bit makes me laugh. Clearly they aren't in my current meeting.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

My favorite one is "9 out of 10 members read scriptures or pray with their children and send them to receive religious education." Interesting relationships in this one. "100% of members either go to church, or don't!"

It's a good thing that we love our children and spouses so much more than those who aren't members. Surely this is reflected in our incredibly low divorce rates. Oops.

Some of the FAQ answers are a bit confusing. For example, the question whether we believe we will become Gods.....the response in the FAQ basically doesn't answer the simple Yes/No question. My understanding is that we believe that we can become gods. As in, the same kind of god as Heavenly Father. Is the answer in the FAQ a good answer? Does it answer the question?

Also, do we believe we will receive our own planet. This time, the answer is a direct No, which makes the previous non response even more glaring. But anyhow, to this question, again, in the simplest terms, don't we believe that we will rule, reign, and create our own worlds? Have I misunderstood this entire time?

No. Everyone knows we believe that if we're faithful we'll get not only our own planet, but all that the Father has; worlds without end. I am not particularly embarrassed about that point of doctrine.

I'm planning on receiving my own planet. It's just that it happens to be THIS one.

You've usually been pretty cool to me, DDD; I was planning on giving you Cuba. I'm open to other requests, though.

Heaven? Who said I was planning on waiting THAT long?

Some of the faqs could be like the Saducees trying to trap Jesus with something they themselves did not beleive in. Did not want to cast pearls before swine so that answer was to them personally.

Being careful how they answer questions here. Wouldn't some peoples version of Heaven be extremely boring. Terrestial and Telestial Kingdom won't they be boring. Thing is if we didn't create worlds as Celestial Beings what would we do. Be careful not to cast pearls before swine who will trample doctrine though. Were is Fusnik on this issue.

I think probably most LDS believe that way. But I think some don't. And I don't think there's a clear answer.

They've been slowly removing this stuff from lesson manuals and the Gospel Principles book. GBH made the "I don't know that we know" comment on TV. You never hear this addressed by GA's in conference anymore. I think this is a doctrine that is quietly being removed.
