I don't get it. At all. I don't think you have it right. If you know church history, you know it changed plenty before JS died as well. I don't think the attraction is to people who study deeply the history or have any other secular reasoning. It's attractive to extreme fundamentalistic and politically conservative type thinking people. If you think Obama is a sign of the times, if you think modern science and historical understandings are Satan's influence, if you go to the D&C and the Journal of Discourses for the answer to every question, if you compare Democrats to Gadianton Robbers, etc, then Snuffer, Tent City, etc, these guys are going to appeal to you.

LOL... I think that has already been established.

So you are saying they don't break some good bread, have some grape juice, and then watch the cowboys play?

I love your assumptions. Yeah, I think we covered Snuffer's denial of JS polygamy early in this thread. I'm talking of the way the church was governed mostly and how spiritual gifts were shared. It seems like a response to the (overreaching?) of correlation for uber faithful, believing members.

            That's true.

I guess it depends on when they think the church went awry. At any rate, it provides a non-secular avenue to live their religion according to the dictates of their own conscience (need a DH ruling on if I got that word right) without compromising foundational faith tenets.

              You love my assumptions?

I have listened to a few interviews with Snuffer and read some of his stuff. I think he is pretty good at sophistry and proof-texting. But I get the appeal for some folks. I think it is the same dynamic that drives the people who are into alternative medicine and doomsday prepping. There is something exhilarating about believing you have figured things out and are more zealous/righteous than your average member.

                *sigh*

I'm not attacking your Snuffer cred. I said "church history" and you assumed I was referencing polygamy.

Sure, I was just using that as one example. The eye-roller thing was directed at the Snufferites, not you. Relax.

Can we all just agree that being a Snufferite sounds atrocious and move on.

Only if you agree that being a Mormon is awesome!

                            We have no agreement.

This is what happens when I try to be nice and agreeable.

fine. I agree that being a Snufferite would be awful.

Is Snuffer tapping into the same yearnings and impulses that Hugh Nibley did?
