    A Temple in their generation?

In D&C 84:4-5 it says a Temple will be built in Missouri before this generation passes. I am pretty sure the generation has passed and there's no temple there.

What happened? How is this explained?

The answer is in section 101.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

            Yep. No thanks.

i did see the Sidney Gilbert thing at the end. That would be a huge benefit to being a prophet:

"It is against my will, thus saith the lord of hosts, that Rush not release its new album until summer 2012. Therefore, saith the most holy of holies, Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart shall no longer hide their Caravan light under a bushel and let their light so shine in March. Also, thus commandeth your lord, they shall start their tour in June, ending in Brazil in November, before the rainy season doth begin."

Actually, I just skimmed through sec 101 and googled around and couldn't find the logic I thought I had heard. I thought there was an explanation in there that the saints had sinned and their lack of faith and back biting or whatever had led to them failing to bring to pass the Lord's will in building the temple.

I think the better explanation is that the word "generation" is being used loosely, much like "day" is used in the creation account or "championship parade" was used by Utah.

exactly, "generation" is simply a metaphor for a period of time, or in the case of Utah, something they told themselves over and over that it was true.

I don't think it will happen now. The land for the temple has been seriously devalued thanks to the RLDS/Community of Christ put their screwy temple next door... Also, it doesn't seem like there is not much room there.
