No! It's not the clerk's busniess and he is part of the American people so subsequently it is none of their business either!Originally posted by UtahDan View PostI understand what you're saying. But don't you think there is a surrender of privacy that comes along with seeking public office? I'm not sure I think that's too hypocritical."They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.
Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I think you are reading the numbers wrong.Originally posted by jay santos View PostI think the problem here is not that he paid so much tithing, but the ratio.
I'm sure paying $45M to a heretical church makes Evangelicals very uneasy, but it can kind of be explained.
The ratio of paying $45M to $6.2M taxes is what is going to kill him. (If I understand this correctly). It means you can extrapolate out that he made $450M income during this time period and paid 1.4% tax on it. It makes people feel like he's not playing by the same rules. Hell it makes me a little pissed off, and I'm all for the government allowing people to make a lot of money in this country.
I don't think the gross vs net argument is going to go very far, here. Gross vs net is the guy on CB making $80K a year who gets $1,000 taken out of every paycheck for withholdings.

Too much panic mode and sore loser for humor.Originally posted by byu71 View PostReally. There should be a lot more humor in this thread. It sounds as though some are taking the question seriously.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

I'm not a fan of this thread. Boo. He made about $7 million in charitable donations on $42.5 million in income over two years.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I don't think you understand the issue. Steve Jobs, and other Apple execs, made huge amounts of money. That must be stopped somehow!Originally posted by Uncle Ted View Post[off the topic but what the hell...]
Yes, Obama is clueless when it comes to creating private sector jobs. In a recent NYT article Steve Jobs schooled Obama about the facts of life...
Clearly Obama doesn't have a clue by asking this question.
In this month's Communications of the ACM (a profession journal for geeks like me) there is a good article that explains how apple creates high paying jobs here in the US while off-loading the jobs americans really don't want to places like china...
(Sorry, unless you are a member of the ACM you won't be able to view the full article.)

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

No. Mitt has said his tithing is fair game.Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostI'm not a fan of this thread. Boo. He made about $7 million in charitable donations on $42.5 million in income over two years.
"If people want to discriminate against someone based upon their commitment to tithe, I'd be very surprised. This is a country that believes in the Bible. The Bible speaks about providing tithes and offerings. I made a commitment to my church a long, long time ago that I would give 10 percent of my income to the church. And I followed through on that commitment," he said.
"Hopefully, as people look at various individuals running for president, they'd be pleased with someone who made a promise to God and kept that promise. So, if I had given less than 10 percent, then I think people would have had to look at me and say, hey, what's wrong with you, fella, don't you follow through on the promises?"

45 million was the initial ballpark number that CNN reported before they had their hands on the actual return. Long story short, people are irritated that I gave the wrong numbers, but it was CNN's fault. You either pay on your net or your gross. He did neither. He chose a number that is in between. I don't have a problem with his decision. In fact, I like his style. Also, I feel like I'm in a unique position to voice my opinion on this since I am his closest relative on this board.Originally posted by il Padrino Ute View PostAccording to you or God?That which may be asserted without evidence may be dismissed without evidence. -C.
