    Missionaries killed in Texas

Dnews reported it. One is from a tiny town of Fairfield Idaho. I may have seen him play ball before. they meet in a small building by the football field and I think there are less than 20 members of the branch there. Knew someone that came to our singles group from there. Really hits home to see someone that close to you die on his mission. I have a great un cle that died on his too. Tragic if Mortality was the end.

This begs the question, for me: why are any missionaries on bikes? Maybe you don't survive a head on collision in a car either, but you have a heck of a lot better chance. Why isn't safety the number one concern when cost of vehicles is not an issue?

Also, the idea of losing your 19-20 yp boy makes me absolutely sick. Condolences to the families, there just aren't any words that cover a situation like this.

A fellow missionary/friend was killed in a car accident. Why are missionaries driving cars?

In spite of the fact there will be injuries or maybe even a death on occasion, there's nothing wrong with missionaries riding bikes.

Of course this is your initial reaction.

Bikes are fine, but riding them on highways at night is not a good idea, no matter how many reflective strips you wear.

Really? Maybe they should take the seat belts out of the vehicles they do have, because plenty of people get killed wearing seat belts and 99.99% of the time people make it where they are going without incident.

It is a fair question, why not just put them all in cars? If someone wants to show me that being on bikes is actually safer statistically for example (which seems counter intuitive but I guess is possible) then that would be an answer that makes sense.

They should just fly everywhere. Flying is the safest form of transportation.

The thing that stuns me here is that the person that hit them fled the scene...that's just unbelievable.

Since when is cost not an issue? It's a tremendous issue, especially when talking about a $15K car.

Gotta keep the miles down. Now there's a question, are there still miles restrictions by month or by transfer for missionaries?
