Wow! I've got something else to tell you on that score. My wife was proudly showing me that after round 1 she was no. 1 in the office pool. She said she did her own research and made her own bracket. I looked at the bracket and had to break it to her gently that Dayton in the Elite 8 was probably a mistake unless her research gave her some kind of insight that eluded the entire world, and this would cost her in the long run. But I thought of you and felt this was a sign of some kind. When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

You actually didn't have to break anything to her. You chose to do so in an effort to demonstrate competency and superior intellect. Typical alpha male behavior. Also could be indicative of lack of confidence. The condescending jab at the end about the possibility of her having info that eldued "the entire world" could also point to an inferiority complex.Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostWow! NO. I was very polite and supportive. She became concened that it was a typo. I told her I had a feeling that she had tapped into something truly revelatory, like Augustine described can happen to a chosen few.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostYou actually didn't have to break anything to her. SU, your wife is awesome and I see this as another sign that you married up.

So, I'm saying that your life sucks because you went on a mission?Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostDon't play the bewildered innocent. Granted my mission was 30 years ago, but I think the main reason we tracked was to keep us busy. On the calling home, I was never able to call home.
I may be small, but I'm slow.
A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."

Nostalgia: n. Pseudo-Greek nostos= returning home algos=pain, ergo, the pain of home. Swiss physicians in the 17th Century coined the term for the ailment witnessed amongst Swiss mercenaries fighting long wars across Europe without ever returning home due to their obligations.Originally posted by Commando View Postso did you cry a lot?
No, I never cried, but if I had....so what? Are you too cool to cry? If my companion had cried, I would be kind to him....not like the bros of the glorified high school clique I had to inhabit."Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. The only reason I wasn't AP was because I was fat and I cussed too much and I was always talking about sex and I talked too much in general. You can see a clear theme here.Originally posted by SeattleUte View Postfyi, I was a Zone Leader for 14 months. The only reason I wasn't AP is that I wasn't quite a big enough toady. Whoa there wuap. Let's leave the negative comments about weight off this board. Even if they're about yourself, we don't need to go there.Originally posted by wuapinmon View PostThe only reason I wasn't AP was because I was fat and I cussed too much and I was always talking about sex and I talked too much in general. HFN, that is awesome.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostI never made any leadership in my mission, I really feel like a failure. I was Senior companion for like 3 months, but then both of us got transfered....to different missions.
Think of the stories your junior comp told to the rest of his companions:

Hey SU, that sounds a bit like me. I was a ZL for about half my mission. I have no idea why I wasn't an AP, but I remember being worried about it for a bit, because I was never a baptizer, so I looked for some affirmation of my missionary worth through leadership callings. It seems so strange how much some things mattered at one point in life.Originally posted by SeattleUte View Postfyi, I was a Zone Leader for 14 months.
