Why do English-speaking RMs have that odd cadence? Very annoying.

We assume things constantly....otherwise language wouldn't work, even our native tongue. Why not speak the language? I guarantee most of them could use the practice, even if only exchanging pleasantries.

Look, I didn't serve a mission but I do speak French. I can attest that after coming back from France each time (even after staying only a few weeks), I would have a hard time mentally transitioning back to speaking primarily in English. Usually, it was a matter of days but I can understand after months and months of speaking primarily the second language, it might take awhile to acclimatise again.

Touche. Just to clear his name though I have to mention that he speaks 3 languages.

I didn't forget...my comeback was better if I ignored the part that made it less funny.

It is very annoying. It almost sounds like they are trying to mimic Tommy Monson's speech patterns.

Calling the prophet "Tommy Monson" is annoying.

I like the voice inflections during prayer where the last word of a phrase always ends in a really low pitch.

                        <High pitch> We thank thee for this </end><low pitch> food. </end>

I remember being taught that to master a language, one had to begin to think in that language. I finally got to that point toward the end of my mission, so I agree: When you are thinking in a particular language, you tend to speak in that language. After a while RMs are thinking in their native language all the time but it doesn't happen right away.

One of the grandest benefits of the enlightenment was the realization that our moral sense must be based on the welfare of living individuals, not on their immortal souls. Honest and passionate folks can strongly disagree regarding spiritual matters, so it's imperative that we not allow such considerations to infringe on the real happiness of real people.
