Looking for a story for my talk on Sunday

Trying to think of a good, true story where someone proceeds down a path, thinking they're doing the right thing, but are really on a bad path and only discover it too late.

Would prefer non-scriptural, but a scriptural story would suffice. TIA for your ideas.

    Prop 8 campaign?
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Once, in college, we were at The Alibi drinking away a Sunday afternoon. One of the guys bellied up with me suggested flaming shots of Bacardi 151. It seemed like an excellent idea so the bartender lined them up and lit them on fire. As I had never had a drink that was on fire it was suggested that I go first. To paraphrase Richard Pryor, when you are hopping around the bar screaming and flailing at your neck and chest trying to put out a fire people will laugh uncontrollably.

In hindsight the shot was not the wrong path. But not extinguishing the flaming booze before downing the shot (as my drinking companions did) most certainly was.

            Amen.
There's no such thing as luck, only drunken invincibility. Make it happen.

Two little mice fell in a bucket of cream. The first mouse quickly gave up and drowned. The second mouse, wouldn't quit. He struggled so hard that eventually he churned that cream into butter and crawled out. Gentlemen, as of this moment, I am that second mouse.

Wow - whatever this means, Viking is the story of Aug-Sep 2011.

I stand ready to switch back to the Nash-Dirk-Cuban pic.
