Surprised this apologetic view of polygamy hasn't come up here yet

It's hard to imagine someone looking at font choices and saying "yeah this is perfect. Nailed it."

    • Humans are naturally polygamist/group oriented and women are naturally bisexual. Must be a reason for the bisexuality in women (even if it may only express itself romantically). Check this out:

      • Finally got through the Hales' podcasts.
-I think he does a nice job of showing that the polygamy wasn't all about JS' libido. I didn't really believe this anyway, but he puts this to rest pretty effectively. I found his distinction between "for time" and "for eternity" interesting historically, and maybe even doctrinally, but completely unsatisfying as an answer to my concerns about JS' practice of polygamy. He at least admits that it wasn't executed well, although I'm pretty sure he believes it's divine.
-He won't lay to rest the idea of one of the points of polygamy being the raising up of more progeny, although I guess until the church drops D&C 132, we're sort of stuck with this.
-He glossed over Zina Huntington Jacobs pretty badly, whose story I find the most disturbing of all, including Fannie Alger.
-I lol'ed when he mentioned that of the 14 polyandrous marriages, "only 3 were to men who were out on missions". Also, he waited a whole year to hook up with Orson Pratt's wife, proof that he didn't just send him out on a mission to marry his wife . And Orson Pratt was really fine with the whole thing, despite his initial protest; of course, he was consoled with JS offering him another wife.

The guy tries his best to appear neutral, and at least cops to the fact that the whole thing is just plain weird. But really, I think it's best just to tuck this stuff away. As soon as you start to defend, it just looks worse.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah
