I stand corrected. However in a psychological sense there is a huge difference between being attracted to a 12 year old as apparently Jeffs was and someone who has gone through puberty. After all, if a man marries a woman who is physically mature in the sexual sense he is not a pedophile. Of course while I cannot understand why a man would be attracted to a 12 year old the diagnosis of his mind gets difficult as that is sort of a stage where you are on the borderline regarding development. And just to make it clear psychological diagnosis and whether one is breaking a cultural norm that has been codified are two different issues. Again, for the record I still don't get what any adult would see in a 12 year old. It's about as creepy as it gets.

This is an interesting Mormon History Association paper that was published in Dialogue in 1986:

Determining and Defining 'Wife:' The Brigham Young Households

Highly recommended. BY was married to a lot of women over his lifetime, and the author addresses every marriage and categorizes each one. He also discusses what is known and unknown about how many of the marriages were actually conjugal. The piece sheds only a little light on the ages of Brigham's wives when he married them (that's not the paper's focus, although the subject does come up), but it is very informative and is a pretty quick read. I'm descended from one of Brigham's brothers so his family history is interesting to me. (I have a ton of distant Young cousins.)
