What does it take to be saved?Originally posted by falafel View Post
It just seems like a bunch of wasted time. I wouldn't consider any of those to be serious contradictions. But again, I haven't looked through them all. Have you found any?
Can God be seen?
Also, if the bible is generally an unreliable historical record, why should it be trusted as an accurate religious exposition?
While these types of questions may be overcome, and this list doesn't really affect me, these are certainly serious contradictions. And I didn't go through the whole list either.

I'd like to know more about the nature of these "contradictions" (without having to actually look up the scriptures myself). Is it a contradiction if one scripture says you need "love" to be saved, while the other says you need "grace"? Perhaps some of these scriptures give partial details only but are considered contradictory to other scriptures that provide other partial details. The whole list of what one needs to be saved could include "a, b, c, d, e, and f," but one scripture gives a and b, and another gives e and f. Is that a contradiction?Originally posted by Jacob View PostWhat does it take to be saved?

I'm still good!Originally posted by UtahDan View PostI was a little worried that this might damage your testimony. I'm sincerely relieved that is didn't. There are a couple others I am hoping will chime in to confirm they are still good in that department.
Interesting link and I appreciate you posting it UD. People who believe the Bible to be without error (there are many....and most live in the South
) will find stuff like this troubling. However, they have recently found an "out" with this type of thing but saying that the original manuscripts were without error but they have been changed over time. Thankfully we had this fulness of truth back when Bro Joseph was around
.
If there's one thing I've found while studying the NT from a more literary perspective, it's that the Bible wasn't written in a way to be picked apart word by word to reveal pure doctrine. The pure doctrine is found in the narrative and application of the parables/stories."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I looked up a couple and found the purported contradictions to be misguided at best. My favorite was #425 because of the irony. When you read the Corinthians passage beyond verse 19, it's obvious that Paul is saying the wisdom of men is bad, while the wisdom of God is good - or in other words, he agrees with Solomon that we should get godly wisdom.Originally posted by falafel View Post

The irony to me comes into play with this whole project falling into the category of the wisdom of men."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"
