This seems spectacular: Joseph Smith Papers going online
“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”
― W.H. Auden

-- Robert Bolt, A Man for All Seasons

that is cool. I love how they refer to an "exclusive Mormon Times interview." The MoTimes is gettin' up there if they're getting exclusive interviews with the likes of Patrick Dunshee.
I poke fun at the reporter's style, but this is a cool thing.Dio perdona tante cose per un’opera di misericordia
God forgives many things for an act of mercyAlessandro Manzoni
Knock it off. This board has enough problems without a dose of middle-age lechery.

This is thrilling. It has seemed, in the past, that our history is a thing that was guarded by the Church for reasons I never understood. I want to study this fascinating stuff, and I want it available for non-LDS historians to be able to contemplate and study and write about. There has yet to be, to my knowledge, a really substantial historical "biography" of the Church by a major publisher."We work in the dark -- we do what we can -- we give what we have. Our doubt is our passion and our passion is our task. The rest is the madness of art."
--Henry James (1843-1916)

How confident are you that the church is publishing everything they've found? I'd say I'm 50% confident in that. The intent of the project is to compile, transcribe, annotate and publish all of the known papers of Joseph Smith, including his revelations, journals, sermons, correspondence, business documents and other papers written by him or by others under his direction.

Why do you have such a low level of confidence, scottie?Originally posted by scottie View PostHow confident are you that the church is publishing everything they've found? I'd say I'm 50% confident in that.“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

Well, there's no way to know if you are right, I guess. I am hoping this step is part of an overall move toward "letting it all hang out," so to speak. If we really have nothing to hide, why not?Originally posted by scottie View PostJust the skeptic in me, and correlation.“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”
