The dissolution of my faith is pH and tempurature dependant.

So you attend church less in the summer or after eating tomatoes?? Nobody likes wearing a shirt and tie when it is hot and sweaty outside. That is waterskiing weather after all...

I wouldn't say my faith has "dissolved"; rather it has been enhanced by outside sources. The gospel of Jesus Christ is beautiful and wonderful. The church is very good overall. But many things in the history of the church which were supposedly revealed were outright ripoffs of existing doctrines, thinly veiled copies of other existing practices, or were very obviously heavily biased by the vessel (of which BY banning blacks from the priesthood for nearly 130 years is the foremost example). The church does not speak of Jesus enough, and seems to get too caught up in rules and rituals.

This reads like and Old Spice commercial.

The poll is deficient. It should have sin as an option. Some people think that sinners rationalize loss of faith. These people should have a chance to be heard.

I wonder if this is also true of those who are "left behind" when people leave the faith? "He left the church because he wanted to sin..."

Guess one doesn't have to "leave" the church to quit paying tithing. But wouldn't that be a sin? Maybe NW in onto something....
How long of a "vacation" from church can someone take before it's sinning?

Mine was about half each of 1 and 4. I know I became increasingly bothered by many of the standard lines of reasoning in the church, particularly involving reading scripture and prayer being the answer to any and all issues of historicity or even simple mechanistic questions, but at that point I had been studying evolutionary theory pretty intensely so I'm sure that played a role.

Faith in what? The church? I think I only found out I had no faith in the church. It's obviously ran by men, only they are more inspired than me.

In Christ? It hasn't. In the Priesthood and Gospel? It hasn't.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. Tex did it.

While I am joking, there have been times when I look around and see 200 Texes and 1 me, and I wonder how on earth I can possibly belong to this group when they believe very different things than I do.

I am sure they have asked themselves the same question.

Good luck with that. Your bishop is also your employee, IIRC. When church ties in with work things get extraordinarily and unfairly complicated.

On the other hand, people have only as much power over you as you grant them.

I would posit that very few "Tex's" in the real world are truly, "Tex" through and through. More times than not it may be an act.

I think that much of the Texiness at church is a result of peer pressure. But I have been around the block enough times to think it is more than just window dressing. At it's core, the church has tremendous Tex appeal.

I used to be pretty damn Texy, if I do say so myself. Ironically when my testimony grew stronger I grew less Texy and more humble. As missionary I quickly learned that I did NOT, in fact, know all the answers about the gospel.

and sorry about the "Distaster" thing. Auto correct struck with a vengeance.

I selected "thoughts/ideas/people at church" without thinking, but after some reflection I think external factors led to my dissolution.

Part of it was a (late) teenage rebellion against the religion of my mother; part of it was the inability to reconcile the development of my socially liberal beliefs with the socially conservative tenants of church; and part of it was my own failed drive to be "#1 top Christian" every day.

I tried to get back into it (because of a girl) earlier this year, but it never took. All of my comprehension was intellectual; I never invested my heart or spirit or faith in the matter.
