But without intent. I haven't read the thread all the way through. Who'd I hack? You? Sorry!“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

Which is the same argument Jihadists use for explaining why suicide bombing does not go against the Koran.Originally posted by LA Ute View PostI'm short on time but will offer a quick and perhaps simplistic thought: Arguably, the Savior is not culpable for suicide any more than a soldier is who throws himself on a hand grenade to save his comrades."The mind is not a boomerang. This is a whole different discussion for me.Originally posted by taekwondave View PostThis was an excellent thought. Fantastic parallel. I guess what it comes down to on this point is if you believe God is TRYING to get us BACK at all. I don't. I don't think we ever left God's presence or God's kingdom, we only think we did, and "according to your faith be it done unto you." The beauty to me about wise principles is that they imply the reality of the kingdom of God right here, right now, and show you how a member of such a kingdom thinks and acts. It isn't forward thinking, it's NOW thinking. I don't think God is trying to get us to GO anywhere, because we're NOT going anywhere. The point is to learn to LOVE being here. Those who do are already in heaven and don't need to wait for the better world so many prophets speak of.
While I get the idea of striving for perfection, I don't think any of us will actually ever become perfect.
And I certainly agree with the idea that we are here on earth not just to learn and get to the next step, but to enjoy the experience.
I don't think these concepts are mutually exclusive.
I think you can believe that there is a God, a Heavenly Father, who loves us and has a plan for us.
And...I think you can believe that as part of that plan he put us here on earth to learn and experience things. And as we live a certain way, we have more joy in the experience.
And...I think you can believe that their is a long journey to return to God. And that you can believe that within that is a journey of self-discovery, improvement, and growth. Which includes making home a heaven on earth, as the primary song puts it.
Similarly - I have children in school right now. Currently their whole world is learning new things, taking tests, learning more things, taking more tests. Yet I sincerely hope for them that they also take the opportunity to make friends, experience social events, participate in choir, band, orchestra, team sports, plays and musicals, etc. I hope they don't focus so much on getting through school that they don't enjoy the experience of the journey. An Eventual graduation from high school is not the sole purpose of being there - though some might argue that it could be.
