God will not be mocked. Fools mock, but they will mourn.
God would prefer not to be mocked, please.
God doesn't care about mockery, but the attitude is not CK material, so lose it while you can.
God doesn't care about getting mocked. The mockery clause is the projection of human insecurity onto deity.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I believe fools that mock God will mourn not because God is in the vengeance business, but because at some point the mockers will recognize the distance they've built up between themselves and God and that will become a cause for mourning.Last edited by Indy Coug; 02-17-2011, 09:37 AM.

This makes most sense to me. The notion that God is waiting around, keeping in shape doing pull ups and chasing chickens merely to be able to open up a can and say "How do you like me now" never resonated much with me. I know others like to picture God being this way...vengeful and waiting to lay down wrath, but I wonder if that is some sort of weird personal insecurity that they have, wanting others to finally suffer for living their lives a certain way.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostI believe fools that mock God will mourn not because God is in the vengeance business, but that because at some point the mockers will recognize the distance they've built up between themselves and God and that will become a cause for mourning.Fitter. We probably all have a different definition of being mocked.
Somewhere in the scriptures God lets us know, "my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are my words your words, for as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my thoughts higher than your thoughts and my words higher than your words." I put it in quotes, but I am not sure the wording is exact and I don't want to look it up. It is close.
Therefor, I will not attempt to define what God considers being mocked. If I feel I have mocked him, then I probably have. If anyone else feels I have mocked him, they might be right and they might be wrong.

I'm not sure what minority group mocked him with their bestial behavior but I wish God hadn't loosed cancer down upon all of us as a result of their actions.
A friend's son (a hemophiliac) died some years ago ago from AIDS after getting a transfusion. That oughta teach those queers.

I think there is some truth to this.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostI believe fools that mock God will mourn not because God is in the vengeance business, but because at some point the mockers will recognize the distance they've built up between themselves and God and that will become a cause for mourning.
I think there could be a little more too it as well. In that there are consequences to our actions. Mocking God might take the form of not believing something is bad for us or ignoring the potential consequences, only to mourn later when the consequences hit.
Years ago the ward I was in asked for adult help for a campout so that they would have two adults there for the week, and I agreed to go. While I was there they began talking about woodcarving, and their leader went over the "totin' chip" rules to using a knife. Then the boys got their knives out and did some carving. Some of the boys laughed about it, and made fun of some of the rules as being over the top and dumb for someone with their age and skill with a knife.
One of the boys who was the most confident in himself and laughed the most at the rules - refusing to follow them - ended up cutting himself. He wasn't laughing as much when he came asking for a bandage.

"We declare it is a grievous sin before God to adopt restritive measures in disobedience to God's divine command from the beginning of time to 'multiply and replenish the earth'. Surely those who project such measures to prevent life or to destroy life before or after birth will reap the whirlwind of God's retribution, for God will not be mocked."
Here is any easy case to determine if you are mocking God, are you practicing birth control?

While this is a cute thought, it has far less foundation (relative to scripture, of course, as none of this has any actual basis in reality) than the idea of a vengeful god who tortures those who mock him because he's simply a dick.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostI believe fools that mock God will mourn not because God is in the vengeance business, but because at some point the mockers will recognize the distance they've built up between themselves and God and that will become a cause for mourning.
This is an example of a belief that has evolved with the times, as those who don't want to believe in the Biblical god seek to downplay his attributes as described in favor of ones shared by the believer. Yet another case of god being made in the image of man.

Out of curiosity, since this thread isn't about using science to prove religion or vice versa (which is what you claim you limit your Foyer participation to discussing), why are you here? Was the urge to condescend just too strong for you?Originally posted by woot View PostWhile this is a cute thought, it has far less foundation (relative to scripture, of course, as none of this has any actual basis in reality) than the idea of a vengeful god who tortures those who mock him because he's simply a dick.

This thread isn't about the faithful expressing their beliefs. It is a discussion based on a poll that invited conflicting opinions.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostOut of curiosity, since this thread isn't about using science to prove religion or vice versa (which is what you claim you limit your Foyer participation to discussing), why are you here? I chose the "God would prefer not to be mocked" option.Originally posted by woot View PostStrange how many people want their god not only to mirror their own beliefs precisely, but also to be a little princess about it.
