Any celebreties exempt from missionary service?

Elder Sikahema wrote a blog about missionary work. I read in a book by Floyd Johnson were Elder Sikahema didn't talk to SWK but did talk to Paul H Dunn. Mentioned that. Said no one exempt from missionary service. Said Osmonds but that too is folklore.

There was an article aboout Elder Freddette the other day called greatest missionary. He did not go on a mission. Will he? There were plenty of comments. Thing is Lord is no respector of persons and said every worthy able young man is to go on a mission.

Joe j Chriestensen, someone quoting him and others quoted prophet several times. Tom twice said go on mission.

In a book by Robert D Hales called return with honor Bob said today everyone is to go on mission. No one can exempt themsleves let bishop. So are athletes and others excused. They are public figures and I don't think so.

Preaching the gospel is a commandment. I doubt the Lord cares whether that is done through full-time missionary service or in other ways so long as it is done.

I think we need to hold senior missionaries' feet to the fire and make them tract too.

I agree. I can't wait for the "every worthy retired person should be serving a mission" talk in one of these upcoming conferences. Time to pass around the guilt.

My rule of thumb on this topic is to worry about those I have direct stewardship over otherwise I just include it in a long list of things that's none of my business.

At home I've neither encouraged nor discouraged it. I only ask my kids they live their life as if they're preparing for a mission. But honestly I don't care much cause I think the missionary program is broken and given the retention rate of new members only marginally effective at best.

If you are famous enough for being Mormon--that is your mission. It's like if you become powerful enough to accept donations from Bob Jones University no one will wonder if you sympathize with those opposed to the Church.

I'm still a little amazed that Shawn Bradley went on a mission. That guy could have used a couple of outs like the team needs me and I'm just to tall.

I'm sure if he was called to Boise, ID he would have reconsidered. Also, his plan was perfect. Play as a freshman, go on a mission, then enter the draft straight from the mission. He had every excuse as to why he wasn't in tiptop shape for the draft. The result was a very high draft pick and a lot of money, probably more than if he stayed an played longer at BYU. He also had a modest career in the NBA, not worthy of a top pick but at least he hung around for a bit.

Did Robert D Hales go on a mission as a young man? But he did play baseball for the Utes so I guess it is cool.

But you heard what President Monson said.

There are a lot of things you can or cannot do and, eventually, you can obtain a temple recommend. Not sure that is a great metric for determining whether or not a full-time mission is a duty, obligation, etc.
