Good times. I sold a lot of newspaper subscriptions (high school) and pest control (college) in that neigbhorhood right there.

      7. "A mormon temple is going to hurt property values."

Fact: With a temple in your neighborhood you can make a small fortune off rich, retired mormons by selling your house to them. With all the money you will make selling your home you can move to a place like Texas, buy a big hat, and live like T. Boone Pickens.

I don't remember the exact but years ago (I was in HS) we were visiting my aunt in Denver. She drove us past a concert venue and said, "That is where they WERE going to build the temple, but the neighbors thought it would be too loud and would bring in too much traffic. Now they have loud outdoor concerts. The joke's on them.."

I remember some people complaining about the Hsi Lai Buddhist temple in Hacienda Heights when it was under construction, until people started walking up and down the streets offering to pay cash for their houses. Then the neighbors LOVED it.

That place is very beautiful and peaceful, and is a good addition to the area IMO. (It was also a convenient place for Al Gore to accept Chinese-funded campaign contributions...allegedly).

Those sites seem to be the product of the church. Do you have any links to people actually against the building of the temple?
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

They usually never get organized, because as they organize they find out pretty quickly how much their property values will increase.
