This doesn't really apply to me since my ancestors did not belong to a polygamous group.

One of my ancestors is one of the first men who was given the power to seal men to more than one wife (and was a polyg himself)--Joseph Bates Noble.

The other (that I'm aware of) is Jesse N. Smith. Anyone who is a) Mormon and b) has family ties to Snowflake, Arizona is likely a cousin of mine.

My grandfather was the child of a polygamist. He wasn't a big fan of it.

Pretty sure everyone is descended from at least one polygamist if you go back far enough (i.e. 20,000 years).

Are we talking about our more recent ancestors that were members of the LDS church or some mormon faction? Say, those in the last 200 years?

I am pretty sure my more recent ancestors were not polygamist. Both of my parents are converts and the first to join in their family. In fact, my ancestors were more in the anti-mormon camp especially on my father's side. I would have to guess I most likely have ancestors that were polygamists somewhere down the line given that some indian tribes practice polygamy and there was polygamy in the bible (Didn't Abraham have at least 3 wives?). The ancestors to humans most likely had multiple partners but maybe not any kind of formal marriage.

But she was a royal bastard daughter. So you got that going for you. Which is nice.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Yep, got at least two from modern times. If you want to go way back then you can also count Abraham, Jacob, and Adam...but I'm sure there are more.

polygamy isn't the same as polyamory.

You would have to ask my sisters since I'm leaving the genealogy work up to them.

As a kid at our family reunions we used to play games with the teams divided by which wife the person came from in our genealogy.

Doesn't get much creepier than that.
